It's almost that time, so what game this year would you place at the top?

For me, it's actually really tough this year. My top three are definitely Granblue Fantasy: Relink, Ys X: Nordics, and The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. All three of those games were amazing and fantastically-constructed for the most part. EoW was such a blast and a creative masterpiece, even if it didn't break into my most favorite Zelda games. Ys X did manage to break into my top three Ys games, and it's certainly both a spectacle of story and action. I think I gotta give the cake to Relink here, though. My only real complaint with that game was the playable character picks being too safe. Everything about this game is fantastic and it broke into one of my top favorite games of all time. Definitely in my personal top ten ever.

So, I gotta give Granblue Fantasy: Relink my GotY for 2024. I saw that coming way back in the beginning of the year when it released and I still feel the same now, even after new Ys and Zelda!

I did play Dragon's Dogma II the most this year, by far, but that game had such a horrible launch and it took seven whole months before it was finally optimized well enough to run without crashing constantly, so I don't think it deserves to win anything and that whole trainwreck has really muddled my appreciation for a game that I otherwise really enjoy.

How about you folks? Where do you stand this year?

I wasn't able to finish any games this year, but I did finish the shadow of the erdtree dlc, which would end up being my de facto vote, I suppose
Notable games I played for the first time include tunic and demons souls

This year was absolutely horrible for gaming, wasn't it

I haven't played much new releases this year, but huge shout out to Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection which has become something I've played almost daily since it released, but even if remastered they're not new games

otherwise, it'd have to be Another Code Recollection, I love that this came back completely redone and how it was the first time we got to play the Wii one in some iteration, and I loved the vibes of that portion and got really into the story, very much one of those games that once I beat it, I felt bummed out that it was over

The only new game I played this year was Echoes of Wisdom, unless you count Jamboree, so I guess by default that would have to be my choice. But that game really isn't GOTY material.

Overall this wasn't a particularly strong year for gaming, especially when compared to last year.

I played retro arcade games this year for around 20ish weeks so nothing new. But based on the way people have been talking, it's probably Balatro for a large majority.

Mouthwashing and I'm not sure it's even close. I played this game about three months after it released and it took me for a traumatic and psychological deep dive around a crew trapped aboard a floating derelict in deep space. I'd say Slay the Princess, but it technically released in 2023.

I honestly don't recall buying anything that released this year. A bunch of old games that were on sale. :/
