This thread will serve as a summary for details on Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition as more information becomes available. For starters, the trailer that kicked it all off:
Announcement trailer
Showcases the environments and updated character models, and also teases the Bionis Shoulder, a new area that didn't make the cut in the original game.
Release trailer
A montage of early game moments, unveils the additional "Future Connected" epilogue, and announces the release date of May 29th, 2020.
Overview trailer
Basically three trailers in one, and only in Japanese at the time of this posting. But there's still plenty of info that can be garnered from the clips. To sum it up: Crisp cutscenes introduce the lively party members that you meet along the way, combat is essentially the same simplistic approach now with individual parts targeting (for better positioning), and trails off to various landmarks/fast travel points, Unique Monsters, heart-to-hearts, and a revamped map system to alleviate the stress of tracking down a quest marker.
Additionally, towards the end here's a special look at Future Connected. Shulk and Melia both get Monado replicas in the epilogue and travel to the Bionis Shoulder for a yet undisclosed reason, having something to do with a mysterious portal.
Fashion gear makes a return from Xenoblade Chronicles X. Using this feature, you can adventure with your favorite weapon and appearance while keeping the performance of the equipment you are wearing. No more having to settle with uglier gear just to keep up with higher enemy stats. Featuring shirtless Dunban! for some reason
In the options menu, you can switch between the original or remastered/remixed soundtrack, as well as toggle between the two for field/battle BGM.
A sleeker menu interface replaces the original's clunky navigation. Note: the character models have distinct animation loops in their respective slots.
Example of the aforementioned overview map, apparently inspired by XC2. Displays positions of NPCS, enemies, heart-to-hearts, landmarks, and quests in a streamlined manner.
