Will the Playstation 5 still use discs?
We all know carts like the Nintendo Switch ones are better. No need to waste space with an optical drive, no requirement to have a hard drive to install games on. This way Sony could also move from HDD (platters) to SSD (internal or SD cards like the Switch). Also reading from carts and SSD is quicker than from disc with less need for loading. Finally you can make carts whatever size you want them. You're not limited to the Blu-Ray disc size.
The other side of the coin is blu-ray. Sony is so heavily invested in the Blu-Ray media, I think they'll have a hard time moving on from them. Sure the Switch carts cost more to make but over time the carts will drop in price to the point where Sony and MS can use them without much added cost at all to the end consumer.
So do you think Sony would ever move away from using Blu-Rays to install games to a HDD drive to a future of carts and SSD/SD?
