This is a thread to name and shame those that ruined things for everyone.

The toothbrush moustache for instance is something that you just can't wear anymore because Hitler ruined it for everyone by doing world war 2.

British chef Jamie Oliver ruined school meals for everyone by getting turkey twizzlers removed from school menus and replaced by disgusting healthy options instead.

Guy Fawkes ruined the country by not succeeding in blowing up parliament

Warwick E Kerr for the creation of killer bees, or I guess specifically whoever was responsible for letting the killer bees escape into the wild

that's...a pretty bad goof

I always heard about killer bees in school when I was young. One of my classmates was obsessed with them and I assumed they would play a much bigger part in my life one day but actually rarely hear about them these days.

in a way, furries ruined anthropomorphic animals. you cant just draw or appreciate them without people either forcing you to identify as one or jumping to weird conclusions

One former State Premier of New South Wales essentially killed Sydney's nightlife by bringing in "lockout" laws which stopped people entering bars, clubs, and pubs after midnight in the centre of the city and a few other areas. The laws have been somewhat relaxed since but the nightlife has never really recovered.

Bram Cohen ruined the music and cinema industry accidentally by creating Bittorrent. Now musicians have to rely on streaming services that take most of their earnings in hope of making a name for themselves and film studios just make mediocre movies using licenses from old successful ones.

As a musician, we don't really make money on the music itself, most of our money comes from ticket sales and merchandise sales.

That's nice to know, I am a musician too. I'm referring mostly to big bands with good contracts and those bands who run their own labels.
But I wouldn't leave out the equation bands that are just starting or are in the process of becoming famous.
It's not like you can't make it in the game anymore, just the rules changed for the worse. David Ellefson addressed the issue with spotify countless times. When a band wins grammy for best performance and their video-clip just generated 2.500$ on youtube, it should be much more difficult for new artists to earn some cash.

Our product is art, that's what we produce and it should be worth the value that we believe it does.
I watched Gottfrid Svartholm, the creator of pirate bay, talking about how everything should be free. In his mind, he was creating Utopia.
My question is why movies, music, video games, programs and e-books come first?

If I could walk into a bakery and take some bread for free then I would give happily my music for free.
So I add Gottfrid Svartholm in this list too. For ruining AAA cinema productions, and pc game releases.

If they expect you to take something for free then it ain't gonna happen. The cliche "it's free advertisement" is just far away from reality.
