It is sad to see people's livelihoods being impacted so negatively by these walls but it is also still devastating that people are still having to be dealing with the ongoing impacts of the 2011 tsunami while also preparing for the inevitable next one. How far can and should humans go to protect themselves from nature, and what cost to the natural environment is appropriate for this purpose? Tough questions to answer.
