What Do You Think of the Simulator Genre

So terrible goat simulator jokes aside (can't wait for ZD to start "joking about E3 announcements again) I was actually rather bi-curious as to what simulators interest you, there are simulators for pretty much any activity in this day and age, from bridge building, Street cleaning all the way to a goat simulator. Although many of these simulators are a far cry from what the genre actually stood for in the days of old, they can still be rather fun and quite satisfying.

I like my second virtual reality job of being a street cleaner, yeah it may not really be my idea of what a simulator should be, but it's still rather fun, I can enjoy the good parts of street cleaning. I would never clean streets in this reality dual to the horrible smell, furthermore the general public do tend to annoy me. The points mentioned above are what draw me into simulators, I feel I am doing a good service to the virtual streets.

Now tell me, and others, what hooks you into a good simulator or perhaps what doesn't, heck do you even like them...

I haven't played any simulator games besides Animal Crossing, the Sims, Sim city, so I dunno, I like life simulator but not when it imitates life too closely.

I'd like to take this time out of my day to thank you for the reply.
I relate closely to your statement, I personally don't see the appeal in car simulators, often times regarded as "car porn" for the gear heads, give me an arcade driving game any day.

This is the best simulator game I've seen/played so far. Which is why I'm really hyped for the GOAT SIMULATOR because I'm sure it'll aspire to the reach of the Internet Simulator.

Thank you for taking the time to reply to my thread, I'd like to say it's great to see the youth take such interest in such matters, I found the internet simulator quite entertaining, but I must warn others the music that plays is quite loud, if you have any small children or dogs that may not like the noise, I advise you to then remove them from the room.

I adore the Sims, I dunno why, just some of the crazy hilarious stuff that happens. I think it might be the glitches of simulations that I love, how they keep them in just for fun, they are some of the few games where glitches are an advantage. This is why I am so in want of Goat Simulator. I love goats, and funny glitches so should be awesome

This is the best simulator game I've seen/played so far.

I played a car and a plane simulater and I didn't think too much of them. They just seem rather bland and boring. Imagine playing Grand Theft Auto without the ability to drive over 100mph while flipping off the police, not being able to perform stunt jumps, not being able to throw sticky bombs out the window, and the good ol' classic, driving over pedestrians.

I'm not a patient person, so a lot of these games don't interest me. If I wanted to experience a realistic driving experience then I'd go hop in a car, if I wanted to experience what it's like to be a pilot then I'd hop in my plane and go for a spin.

By car simulator, you mean games like Gran Turismo or Forza? Or like that European Track simulator?

Forza was the actual game I had in mind when posting that statement, just didn't see the thrill in it, it practically plays it's self with little room for error.
Gran Turismo on the other hand was acceptable for me, as it felt like I had more control, but yeah, I'd still rather be riding a super powered go-kart, throwing banana peels at other drivers.

I've only played a few simulator-type games - War Thunder, and Forza Motorsport 3. War Thunder, which is a WWII plane and tank battle simulator, is actually a lot of fun. It's fun figuring out how each plane you unlock is supposed to work, whether it's using altitude advantage to take on a LaGG-3-8, or flipping around to get a F4F3-Wildcat from behind. Every plane is approached differently, and each plane can be used differently to destroy other aircrafts. There is certainly a big learning curve - the I-series planes are currently kicking my *** every time I take my F6F-Hellcat out. It's all about getting the best plane, and knowing how to use it against superior planes.

I also have had a lot of fun with Forza Motorsport 3, and I need to get around to getting 4 and Horizon. It's almost stupidly easy on lower difficulty - I'm used to overlapping cars in races - but there is a challenge at higher difficulty settings.

Don't hold me to this, but I believe there is an option to have a car with stick shift, allowing you to switch gears manually. I'd imagine switching gears at the precise moment is important to getting a speed boost above the competition.

I also want to get into Gran Turismo, but I don't have a system to play them on.

I pre ordered Goat Simulator for myself and a friend, so I am excited to get in on that, as well. I was hyped the moment it was up for pre order. It's a shame there will be no multiplayer, though.

I adored the Sim games back in the 90's; Sim City, Sim Earth, Sim Farm etc. They were fantastic games.

I also love The Sims.

Not sure if they'd count, but Roller Coaster Tycoon and Zoo Tycoon were childhood addictions, really want to get those again.

I play Out of the Park Baseball a lot, usually buy the new edition every year. It's a baseball sim obviously, may very well be the best most customizable sport sim of any game. Would recommend it to any sports fan for sure.

Oh if we're talking about the likes of racing games--like Forza--then I'm a fan. I'm not a fan of the typical simulater games, but adrenaline, realistic, racing is something that I like. I tend to be pretty good at the likes of Forza and it's a pretty fun game with lots of content and longevity as you have multiple unlocks from personalising your own cars, upgrading, buying new cars etc.

The biggest plus is online racing. Using your progress from single player online, bringing your personal/customised cars online own, and racing with friends is actually really fun. Then of course you can do proper multiplayer where you race anyone from around the world. It's actually really fun and, of course, frustrating.

I played a lot of combat flight sims back in the mid 90s and enjoyed them a lot (Chuck Yeager's Air Combat, F-15 Flight Eagle II, Air Warrior, Comanche, Tornado, Jane's USAF, Falcon, etc).
