BBC America is making a tv show very loosely based on Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels. I've complained about how much I hate everything about it so far before, but this one just feels petty.

The showrunner posted on Instagram about wrapping production and left a long list of thank yous and acknowledgements, and managed to not so much as acknowledge Pratchett himself. You know, the guy who created everything they've meticulously bastardised and are patting themselves on the back over?

Pratchett's daughter was not pleased about this, and rightly so.

George Martin's views on adaptation mirror my own. Speaking in episode 388 of the Nerdist Podcast in 2013, Martin said:
That being said I also believe which maybe is not a popular opinion in Hollywood - that you owe a certain fidelity to the source material, to the fans and readers of that source material. And while you have to make some changes for practical reasons, you should never make extraneous changes just because you think you know better than the original writer.

If you’re adapting Spider-Man you should stay as close to Stan Lee as possible. You shouldn’t try to improve Spider-Man because you think you know better than Stan Lee - which you probably don’t. If you look at all the Marvel movies, the ones that stay closest to the original material are the strongest; the ones where people got carried away and introduced a lot of extraneous changes are weaker and sometimes disastrously weaker.

And I think that’s not just true of Marvel, that’s true of anything. You know, don’t mess with the original material. There’s lots of stories out there. If you want to make a different story, make a different story and make it your own story, make it an original. You know, you don’t have to trash something. There’s plenty of room for different variance on some of the basic ideas but if you’re gonna adapt something, you’re adapting it because it already has a name and a reputation. It already has fans. You’re getting the advantage of that. You’re getting the people who love this character or people who love this particular story, they are gonna come and see your movie or your television show because they love the original. What they wanna see is the original translated into a new medium. They don’t wanna see a new story that the scriptwriter came up with, just sharing a few basic elements of the old story.

The Watch takes characters and locations that exist and have bold, important, wonderful stories already, and it throws away everything but the names so this new show, that would otherwise die in obscurity, can leech off of Discworld like a parasite. I am not happy with any of this, and the least they could do, the absolute least, was acknowledge Pratchett, as they wrapped production. This **** stain of a show wouldn't exist without that man's brilliance, and to not so much as say his name tells you everything you need to know, just like Rhianna Pratchett said.

I hope this show bombs hard. The salt goes on.

Very trivial, but I forgot about a glitch in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time where the game constantly thinks you're dead in a particular room just because you saved and quit there, and I triggered that glitch this morning because I had to stop and go to work. Now that I've finally gotten time to relax and play, I found out the game is hardlocked because of it. So now I have to restart the whole game, which puts a damper on things I wanted to do for my blog.

And the weird thing is, this same glitch screwed me over years ago too, and I usually remember game breaking glitches once I've experienced them. I also should have utilized the other save slots instead of overwriting the same slot with new saves...

Not a good way to start a gaming session at all.

Last week I cut my finger pretty bad while cooking, and I've been nursing it slowly ever since. I thought maybe it was finally healed enough for me to stop wearing bandaids over it constantly, so I stopped last night. Well, about halfway through today I notice it's suddenly all purple and a little swollen, which it hasn't been at all until now. Figures the moment I stop keeping it covered with a bandaid it gets irritated by something. So I go into the bathroom closet to get some hydrogen peroxide, and I use the stuff and I don't feel a thing, not even a tingle, which is weird. So I looked at the expiration date, and its ****in 2013. Oof. I washed out the cut and grabbed some neosporin cream, the very cream I've been using on it with the bandaids this whole time, but something new occurred to me so I checked the date on that too and it was 2018. Nothing in our medicine cabinet is new, and apparently nothing has been replaced in two years. Yeesh.

So now my poor cut is just covered by a bandaid and nothing else to treat it. Hopefully it at least stays clean. It's been like 6 days and it still hasn't fully closed. probably because all of the medicine we have is severely out of date.

My car battery died and it’s raining out. I have to get a ride to work....

This stupid ****ing government, man.

We have new restrictions in my region of a 10pm curfew for pubs and restaurants and have been told not to socialise with people outside of our household...

Okay, what about when people go to work? They're working with people in close proximity with people not from their households, how is that fine and socialising is the issue? People will hang around others on a shift at work for a lot damn longer than drunk people shuffling from pub to pub.

For god sake, what the hell?
