No, she wasn't. I don't hate her, but they didn't really do to well with the whole 'Link and Ilia's friendship' thing. I feel like they might've been trying to remake Link and Saria's friendship from Ocarina of Time (with even more story relavence) but just did a terrible job.

Ilia's part in the story was really just filler in my opinion.

I really think Nintendo failed with this character. If a character has their own intro cutscene, you expect something from them, like Groose, but all Ilia actually does is give you a reason to continue your journey after the other children are found and later on she is part of getting to the City in the Sky. She shouldn't have been so built up as a character if they aren't going to use it, it only makes you disappointed!
