Pokémon nicknames have always been a great addition to the games, With such classics as

So have you ever named your Pokémon something really weird or interesting? Any reason for it?

I once named my Totodile, RollsRoyce. I do not know why that even became a thing, but I thought it was a good idea at the time

i always name my slaking Bread (because he loafs around)
i also always name my salamence Outrageous because you just spam outrage with moxie and he's unbeatable (until gen 6 came along and ruined all my 4drag2mag teams)

The game is on!
I pretty much always put a nickname on every single Pokémon I catch, even if I know I won't use it. Once in OR I caught a Pelliper for example that I completely randomly nicknamed Krildbronker. And then I Wondertraded it away immediately. I have no idea how I can still to this day remember the name Krildbronker lol

I also have a Charizard called Mr. Miles, a Goodra called Leonard and a Greninja called Tom Hanks. No real reasons for any of those. ^^

I usually don't nickname my Pokémon when just playing for myself, but when I Let's Played Pokémon Silver on my YT channel a while back, I gave everything nicknames. Mainly because Game Grumps did the same thing when they LP'd Pokémon FireRed on their channel and they inspire me, but also for the fun of it, all of them got really weird, nonsensical names.
I won't say all of them, but I can name my main team. Typhlosion: Pfnud, Fearow: Stoooor, Arbok: Tarrb, Bellosom: Hubbot, Sudowoodo: Kampman, and finally Seaking: Haj

I used to nickname all my pokemon as the first form of their evolution change (so for example my charizard would still be called charmander) I thought that it would make people think I had an easy team when I battled other people

Here's what I named my main team in Sun & Moon, all Hawaiian names because it's Alola ofc:

Decidueye - Ke'a (means bow, like bow and arrow)
Alolan Raichu - Konane (means bright, brilliant)
Vaporeon - Kai e'e (means tsunami, tidal wave)
Typhlosion - Ho'a (means burn)
Alolan Ninetails - 'Alopeke (means fox)
Kommo-o - Unahi (means scale, usually fish scales but i still think it fits)

And I also named all my eeveelutions:

Leafeon -'Ohala (means green)
Glaceon - Kau'anu (means winter)
Umbreon - Akua (means devil, demon)
Espeon - Hali'a (means memory, recall)
Flareon - 'Aalani (means orange)
Jolteon - Hekili (means thunder)
Sylveon - Kaula (means ribbon)

I used a Hawaiian-English dictionary website so I don't know how accurate these are, but I like them. I almost never nickname my pokemon. Case in point; my Decidueye was named Archer before this. I'm terrible at coming up with names.
