Too big, too much?

With BotW, Zelda went open world. Like Witcher 3 and Skyrim before it we got a huge landscape to explore.

There were a couple of times when i felt daunted at its size but overall the world was a comfortable size.

But what about Zelda Switch, do you want the overworld of Zelda Switch to be even bigger?

Is bigger better?

Or would you be fine with a same-sized or even smaller world if it was well designed and different enough?

Would a bigger world than BotW be too much to handle?

Bigger isn’t good unless it’s much more chock full with things to find and things to do and such, too much of botw was pretty landscape with nothing to find but the occasional Korok seed.

Skyrim has a smaller overworld than Breath of The Wild, and (even though I haven't played it), we all know it was totally full to the brim of stuff to do.

Smaller can be better, as long as it has enough stuff to do. Bigger can be better too, but it needs to have enough stuff to do, too

I’d rather the next game be a little smaller, and more intimate. Of course there would be areas of the game that are barren and run down, but it would be nice to have so much towns, villages, caves, themed mini dungeons, and tons of meaningful side quests to do, not just fetch quests or finding Korok turd nuggets.

Depends. More of a good thing is better. More of a bad thing is worse. And the overworld has never been Zelda's strength, especially for the 3D games. The overworld has always been the most consistently hated aspect of the franchise that I truly can't believe they actually decided to make a Zelda game where 90% of the gameplay was in the overworld.

They'll likely use the same engine as BotW, so I think it'll be roughly the same size. Honestly, I wouldn't mind if it's smaller but more quests and npcs in it. BotW does a good job at making the overworld feel dynamic by having npcs with schedules. Continuing and increasing that will really help players sink hours into the game

You can make your game as big as you like, but there has to be something to actually do with it all.

It goes without saying that 900 collectable korok seeds is a @#$%ing disgrace. I mean, ninty's blowing ubisuck out of the toilet with that abhorrent collectathon.

In general though, from what I've seen BotW does generally make good use of its content. There are so many minute ways to interact with the world, and the challenges change in so many subtle ways to provide drastic differences in gameplay depending on your environment.

I wouldn't mind if they scaled it back a tad. Video games produced themselves into a corner with this "MOAHR BIGGAHR!!" approach to sequeling they've been running with.

BoTW's world felt dull and lifeless. No point to having a big world if there is little of interest to do it. Its secrets were mostly not worth discovering and as for the 900 Korok seeds, **** collecting the majority of those useless things.
Would rather have had a smaller world and more time and effort put into the actual story, there are plenty of collectathon games that can be made in 2 years so why a person would want to wait 6 for this one and actually be pleased with what they got is beyond me.
