Breath of the Wild Thoughts on a companion?

Every 3D Zelda game, along with a good portion of the 2D games, have featured companion characters who tag along with Link on his adventure. With that in mind, there's a good chance that Zelda U will include a companion as well, though we haven't seen one in any of the promotional content shown so far.

What are your thoughts on a companion in Zelda U? Do you think Zelda U will even have a companion? If you think it will, what kind of companion would you like to see?

Personally, I'm hoping for another companion with a lot of involvement in the story, like Midna. I'd like a companion that allows for a lot of interactions, but I'm not sure about the best way to go about doing that - there were a lot of interactions with Fi in Skyward Sword, but her interactions just ended up hurting the experience more than anything else. I'd definitely like to see a good companion in Zelda U, but I'm still a little skeptical on Zelda U actually including one.

I liked most of the companions, but I hate it when they like give you tutorials. I would also like it if they can scan enemies like Fi and Tatl and Tippi. Also, we need Midna to return.

I would also like to see someone heavily involved with the story. Aounuma sounded like he was not going to have link speak again this time so there needs to be a strong character for his companion.
Whilst Link himself has been given somewhat of a personality I actually find him to be quite boring. He's just a generic hero at the end of the day so to have someone who is a bit different like Midna was in TP, that is what I am hoping for.

An idea I would like implementing would be to be able to choose a companion like in Mass Effect or Dragon Age that way you can have an option as to what personality you like to have around you. I don't think they will do it but I would like that if they did.

I actually really like this idea. I am of the variety of people who don't want Link to ever speak. It is one of the things that I find charming in Zelda games. But this could really make players feel a bit more involved without actually changing Link's character or making him talk.

I have never had an issue with companions in the past. The only one that I actually disliked was Navi because she felt so uninspired. She was just a glowing ball. Fi could get irksome at times, but I thought her design looked pretty good, so I still like her. Navi had no connection to the story, so I think that might also contribute to the issue.

Aside from Navi, the companions are often some of my favorite parts of the 3D games. They can really help drive the story and enforce motivation in the player.

If Zelda WiiU has one (which I hope it does), I think it should be handled like the King of Red Lions or Midna. I found these two to be the least intrusive of the series as there wasn't too much handholding when it came to solving puzzles (although, in Midna's case especially, there wasn't too much difficulty in the puzzles).

Fi is an example on how not to do one. The alerts were very annoying and would spell out the obvious. There was no time to work things out by yourself. Not to mention, her lack of character. They tried to shoehorn in some character for her at the end, but there was no visible growth throughout the game. She wasn't terrible, just not the best.

I say yes, going through a 3D Hyrule without one would 1) feel incredibly lonely and 2) mean less depth and personality to the game. I'd rather have Midna than nothing.

Besides...

It's dangerous to go alone. *nerd laugh*

I look at Epona as a companion. Hypothetically since this game is so heavily inspired on ghibli movies i wouldn't mind having a small animal like in Nausicaa

Fi was a step in the right direction with all her options to call her for hints, summaries, rumors, ect. ect. But was a step back with all her interruptions. The Hint Ghosts kinda fixed this by them being completely optional, the only problem they really had was you could only get hints, nothing else.
If they are going to have a companion they should have the hints and stuff like Fi, but should cut the interruptions a bit, they are enviable, but keeping them to a minimum will keep people happy.

I guess for their character...Have a good character and I'm fine, I just don't want a copy of another partner.

Also please have them summon-able, I love ST Zelda, but it got on my nerves that I couldn't talk to her on a whim.
