Gaming has come a long way over the years. From simple text-adventures, to push-button graphic gaming, and to this generation which consists of motion technology and glasses-less sterioscopic 3D. But the next level of gaming is just around the corner with the invention of Thought-Control controllers.

The ability to play a game with simply just your mind is some gamers' dream come true. The potencial of the technology has almost endless possiblies. It not only gives the player the chance to play using their mind but can later be used to upload smell, taste, sounds, and much later it may be able to upload the actual experience directly into the brain.

Now this technology has already been advaliable for a few years now at prices between $200-$3,000. And the current tech only responds to a few mental commands and facial expressions but with how rapidly technology is being developed, physical gaming could be a thing of the past.

What do you guys think?

I hope that does not happen. We'll end up with people losing their grip on reality. At least with a controller you are still physically doing something in the real world. We would end up with obese seat ridden people who do everything whilst playing their game. Even having their food brought to them by their parents.
Of course this will not be in all cases, but I see things like that happening.

I for once would love true virtual gaming with such thought controllers, it would be the greatest leap forward and immersion the videogame industry has ever seen. The technology is currently very expensive (for top notch genuine quality hardware) and limited. This partly results from the major sacrifices necessary in processing power if the player is allowed greater interaction. No doubt this will one day catch on in the gaming world but I don't see it permeating those boundaries this generation or even the next.

Does that not occur already with people who become addicted to certain videogames? I could play Call of Duty or Minecraft now for 100 straight hours and lose my grip on reality. That is a gross over generalization. Everything is detrimental when not pursued in moderation.

Yeah, because you are still in reality when you play COD and Minecraft. With what Laz is talking about the gamer could actually be cut off from the real world because the experience would be so immersive.

Haha if that's the case this could be a lot bigger. Look at that Futurama episode were they go into the internet. Just think we could all meet each other in a virtual reality shoutbox ;)

Although I do love this idea for gaming... I would have to move would I ?
Oh but I could already see the headlines on how video games corrupt people etc because of this new tech :P
