Things That Are on Your Mind

As far as I understand, that dude is Cheery Littlebottom, the female dwarf who defied the patriarchal culture of her people to present herself in a more feminine manner, thus helping spur on a cultural shift amongst dwarves that, over the course of the books, led to more and more female dwarves embracing their femininity and slowly tearing down the conformist monoculture centred around men.

So for that character, whose defining trait is being female and how that is politicised in everyday life and how she challenges those traditions and helps build a world in which other women are able to express their femininity openly and be recognised by their peers as women, they cast a 'gender non-conforming' person who goes by they/them and thinks Littlebottom is "gender fluid".

In other words, they've not read the ****ing books and don't understand who this character is or why her story matters. They've just hogtied her so they can slap some completely different set of themes and politics on to her that she herself has no connection to.

Littlebottom does not have a beard in the books because she's gender fluid. She has one because all dwarves do, it's a fundamental part of their physiology. Littlebottom's story is all about women not being considered less than men. It can be said to be about gender expression, but only insofar as it concerns women expressing their womanhood in defiance of patriarchy. Littlebottom is not 'exploring' her gender or anything like that. She knows what she is and chooses to embrace that rather than let her culture repress her.

Discworld as a setting, and in terms of its politics, has space for non-binary characters. But create one. Don't usurp one. Especially not one whose own story is so important. This """adaptation""" is absolutely astounding in how much it misses the whole ****ing point of what its based on.
Jesus ****ing christ, that's literally the most transphobic thing ever. Why are people like this?
I'm not very familiar with the Discworld books, but that assumption and stereotype that a character being gender non-conforming (regardless of the worldbuilding and culture of the character) makes them transgender completely misconstrues what gender is, and the fact this is the message people want to send with a film adaptation is appalling. I'm so sorry they're erasing a character in that horrible manner; she sounds interesting in the book from what you describe.

I keep forgetting that Animal Crossing is doing fireworks shows this month and I keep missing them. Hopefully I remember to see at least one before the month is over...

Can't wait for my new desk lamp to be delivered so I can see at night again. The blinding light from my computer isn't the best thing to have as your only source of light.
praise lamp :^)

The Xenoblade Chronicles 2 localisation is starting to really annoy me. Wondering why names have been so drastically altered in the process.

Very much a dude.
Next guitar playing blog is pentatonics, as well as a crazy exotic, Demonic pentatonic so that you can play over those dreaded Minor 7 b5 or Half-Diminished chords, so you can then play in any chord progression and sound good.

Excited for that one. :)

I'm actually excited on all of the blogs I have for my guitar series. Feels like I'm teaching guitar again. :3

Really not too sure what this new job interview thought of me. It was all well and good and smiles, but I saw something shifting in the interviewer's eyes, and I suck at reading people so I worry I might have made a strange impression.

I've been feeling totally crummy these past few days. Not like, emotionally, but mentally and physically. I've had no energy for anything, even things I like, and I've been sleeping all day. I have been trying for days to get back to writing my story, to no avail. I thought maybe I should re-read what I've already written to get me back in the groove because that worked the last time, but I don't even feel like reading. I dunno what's wrong but I have zero energy and it sucks. I'm sleepy and listless and I wanna do things but I can't make myself do things.
