Theater or Theatre: How Do You Spell It?

It really depends on the place. In my opinion, if it's an auditorium of sorts where plays are acted out, I spell it as "theatre"; if it's a cinema for films, then it's a "theater". Plays and drama have been around for a really long time, so they definitely deserve to be associated with the older and classier spelling, while movies are more modern. That's how I've always looked at it.

You know, that makes sense. I never thought about it that way.

I used to think "theatre" is more used in England and "theater" in America, but now I see the two spellings used interchangeably (at least in America). I always spell it "theater" though, since that's how I was taught to spell it.
