Upon completing a not-divine-beast the subsequent cutscene explains to you and the sage descendant the events that happened in their time, AKA the imprisoning war. But the imprisoning war took place after the events of ocarina of time according to the current timeline. This doesn't fit with established canon at all. So is botw and tears not canon? Are they in a parallel universe where the same events with different people are taking place?

This has been driving me crazy for days now. We know the past era takes place some time after OoT. We also know that Rauru is said to be the founding king of Hyrule. Once again, this makes no sense, seeing as Ganon was born well after Hyrule's founding. We also know though the gylph in the Gerudo region-
In Rauru's time Ganondorf is once again king of the Gerudo somehow.
It literally doesn't make any sense. Idk if the devs went all out with the "player's imagination" idea but it seems as though they weren't thinking about the timeline at all. My best guess is this is an alternate universe where the imprisoning war takes place around the same time as OoT would've, but that'd mean changes going all the way back to Skyward Sword since that's when Hyrule was supposed to be founded. Perhaps its a timeline resulting from the SS Demise paradox? (Yk the whole killing-Demise-in-the-past-techinally-makes-a-whole-timeline-we-just-don't-discuss thing).

It's contradictory and doesn't make sense in the current lore. Pretty sure they're using Imprisoning War because it's a name that people recognize.
Both this Imprisoning War in Totk and the one between OoT and ALttP end the same way, sages sealing and all that. If you only looked at that you could say "oh yeah, imprisoning war, checks out". But then it'd be totally glossing over everything happening with the dark world and it would imply botw (and it's tens of thousands of years of pre history) took place between OoT and ALttP. Slightly infuriating that Nintendo would just... slide the name in there and hope we didn't think about it.

unless the wheel timeline theory is true and botw and tears take place on a cycle farther in the future???

The "Imprisoning War" has become scuffle between half a dozen dudes now.

the scuffle between half a dozen dudes was the capstone to the imprisoning war. The entire conflict seemed to be what this hyrule refers to as the imprisoning war (Starting off with sonia's death, I guess?)
It's the only part of the Imprisoning War that we see, so it's all that exists. Outside of that it's just a couple sand squids doing sand squid things.
