The Whole Point of "Reputation"

The whole point of the "reputation" system is to show how much you agree with that person on a certain topic. You don't give someone bad reputation for an opinion. If it's a hate post, ex; "omg. zelda is so stupid trololol.", then you give them bad reputation. Also, don't give someone bad reputation from a comment posted way over a year ago.
