Chapter 1
As told by the Bulblin elder
It was a peaceful time, 150 years ago, when our people were seen as just that- people- instead of the hideous monstrosities we are seen as today. I was just a young bulblin back then, only approaching my seventy-sixth year, when our Prince- now King- was born.
Our Queen back then was very ill during her pregnancy, and many of our people feared that she- and the baby- would perish and we would be left without a ruler, but she survived, until 3 weeks after our Prince's birth that is. She had been weakened by the birth and the disease she had struggled so hard against finally took her down. Our Prince was made King at such an early age, before he could even sit up on his own. His nurse took care of him until he was 14 years of age- an adult for our kind, and that is when he formally took the throne.
Those 14 years had been hard on our kind. The same illness that had killed our beloved Queen soon spread to others, wiping out nearly three quarters of us in such a short time. Those that survived were never the same, our tanned skin darkened and turned green, we were left with unhealing warts and scars, and our hair fell out, leaving us looking like the gruesome creatures that often attacked and robbed the Hylian merchants out in the field. We thought our children would be safe and our race would be reborn as new, but alas, our children were born with these traits. We were ruined. Our King had been safe from the lethal disease for all those years, but he caught it at age 18, 4 years after we thought it had been wiped out. He had been a handsome boy, his skin had been clear, his dark hair had shined in the sun, his horns were smooth and straight, but that was a different man from the King now, green, bald and generally terrible to look at, he declared war on the race that had brought the disease that had destroyed us.
