Hello fellow Zelda Dungeoners. Today I was messing around with the dungeon maps of the original Zelda. What I found was shocking! The dungeons fit together like a puzzle. Not just in First Quest but also in Second Quest!

First Quest:

Did you guys know this? Or did I just make your brain explode with pure epicness?

As of 3:05 PM, I decided to start my own series like this for each game.

If anybody know how to post pictures with a smaller pixel rate, but still be able to click and open up a new window to see them, please tell me so I can just post the pics on this thread instead of a link. Thanks.

I'd assume this was done to save as much space as possible on the small NES cartridge. It's very impressive that you found this. I certainly wouldn't have noticed.

==Edit==
If the dungeons 7-9 are put directly under the others, it creates a 16x8 panel, the same size as the overworld map.

I know the dungeons had specific shapes assigned to them, but Idk if the fit was on purpose? All the dungeons did have to fit on the standard square map, so it may be just a coincidence combined with a necessarily similar size.

I thought that as well, but then when I looked at Level Six, I noticed that it had part of the outside shape as Level Three. How knows if it's just a condense or not. It might just be a secret to everybody at Nintendo.

Hmmm... I never noticed that.

That's pretty freaking awesome and I DID NOT know that, to be honest. I didn't look much into LoZ map design...pretty interesting now that you bring it up. I wonder if any other Zelda games have maps that *could* fit together somewhat like a puzzle piece?

Well, I'm going to do all the games and see what happens. So this project might last a few months.

It was done on purpose to save space. Due to a miscalculation, they saved so much space that they only used half of the memory on the cartridge. And that's how the second quest was born.

I have no idea though if they used this same method for other games. That would be interesting to see.

But with that thought aside, it's pretty cool to look at.
