I effing love the Beetle. Just the idea of using a mechanical tool shaped like a beetle to hit switches, pick things up, and bomb unsuspecting enemies is too cool. But the way this item was used was so incredible that it's just simply mind-boggling. I haven't seen a Zelda item utilized this well -- especially in a debut -- since the Hookshot. The Boomerang was cool, and I still like it, but the Beetle was a fine substitute for it. Just... <3<3<3<3<3

What do you think about it?

I think it's cool, and how it almost displays that Ancient Hyrule is more technologically advanced than we are today

Wait until you max the Beetle out, I did it within my first session of gameplay and didn't regret the choice of upgrade

I upgraded it as soon as I got it. Had tough beetle in mining facility. Never knew how suckish it really was normally until I started a new file and couldn't upgrade it

I agree; the beetle was very well used in Skyward Sword. I really appreciate when the items are versatile like that rather than having one set function. It makes things less obvious when the items have multiple functions. I remember in Wind Waker forgetting a few times about how the deku leaf could be used to glide because I kept using it for gusts. On a related note I do wish they'd go back to the hookshot/clawshot functionality of being able to stick to more random things like torches and most things made of wood. Versatility makes the items more interesting, and the beetle is an excellent example of this.

I absolutely love the Beetle, I use it every chance I can! I'm learning new uses for it constantly. I was watching my sister play a while back; she was at the part where you had to escort Scrapper up the volcano. Instead of barging through the landscape killing everything in a malestrom of swords and arrows like I do, she picked them all off with the bomber beetle. It was very interesting, I didn't even know you could kill the Moblins like that!

I'll totally be in the minority when i say the Beetle annoyed me.

It was interesting to play a Zelda game that almost had a mascot item. But it just didn't wash with me, i was bored with having to pick up and drop bombs after the third time that it made me do it, i was bored of sending it through small tunnels to hit switches after the third dungeon. It was nice to use it for a bit of strategic forward planning by sending it through a room in a dungeon to scope it out but really, sometimes that felt like a chore too and not needed because the dungeons were pretty straight forward. I upgraded it as soon as i could for speed but meh. I didn't even really like its design, it looks a bit too goofy for me. :-/

This is really all I have to say. The Beetle felt more annoying than it did fun, for me. The item isn't in any sense bad, just troublesome (imo). The design didn't do anything but amplify its annoyance, for me. Here's hoping that, if Nintendo includes something similar to it, they fix it heavily to my own liking. :/

I agree with Spirit and Van. I didn't like that you couldn't control Link for long periods of time while using the Beetle. If they decide to bring this item back in the future, I hope you can move Link around some way to avoid those stupid enemies I didn't see just randomly attacking me. Oh, and the Beetle needs to be faster. It's used a lot and very creatively though, and that's a very good thing.

If you got hit by enemies while using the Beetle, that's your fault. I never once got hit while using it due to clearing out nearby enemies. It's really not hard to do.

It gets faster via upgrades. ;)

Good for you, but all the same, I would like to move Link around so I can escape the enemies.

Yes, but I was implying in the beginning of the game like in the Skyview and Earth Temples where it's not upgraded yet and you need to use them a lot. It would help if it could go faster by pressing "A". Not hard to do, they could just add a stamina thingy like they added for the boat in Lanayru Sand Sea.

The Beetle was my favorite item from SS! I especially love the part in Skyview Temple in the main room when you can maneuver through those upper tunnels looking for rupees! How's that for a run on sentence.

First, how would you even see Link while he was moving? Second, not being able to move adds strategy in using the Beetle.

I don't see how this is an issue. It encourages you to upgrade it.
