"Speedrun" Vs. Pacing Yourself

It all depends on the game for me. If I am playing a game that is largely story based such as final fantasy or zelda I take my time and try to relish every moment while if I am playing a platformer such as mario or donkey kong country I usually try to finish as fast as possible

For the first time I play games I take my time, but I usually don't 100% it. However, if I play it again, I may speed run it or take even longer than the first time looking at things I haven't seen before and grabbing all the items I can.

i only attempt first time speed runs on wii games,i can't afford to waste batteries on the remote [damn wii...]

I always pace myself first. There is always a rush of anticipation as to what may happen next, but I like to explore a game. After I beat it then most of the time I do a challenge run, like LoZ has it's 3-heart challenge. But I almost never do speed runs.
