now before any of you elder scroll fans tell me that this thread is very biased in would like to say something. skyrim fans have been very vocal about this debate and Zelda side of the argument has not been heard very well. There are two main reasons that show that skyward sword is the better of the two.
Firstly, IGN gave skyrim a rating of 9.5 a feet worthy of recognition as skyrim is a very good game. however skyward sword was rated a magnificent 10/10 and was given titles such as "the best game in ten years", "the best of the wii" and "the best Zelda game". people viewing this will know how many expectation there are to live up to when your called the best Zelda game.
Secondly, the innovation that skyward sword has brought to the series, seriously out weighs what innovation skyrim brought to Elder Scrolls. 1:1 combat has and will be one of the most revolutionary systems brought to the series and the gaming world. just as z targeting in Oot changed the series on a huge scale the ability to have link do your exact movements have brought a better experience ,not to mention a much higher difficulty while battling AI, to the series.
Please post your thought but also feel free to disagree.
First of all- no game deserves a perfect rating from anyone. Ever. Both games have their flaws, therefore they are not perfect...makes sense right? I've played many games better than both of these and they did not get better scores (Super Smash Bros. Melee [at a professional and competitive level] Tales of Symphonia, Golden Sun, etc.)
Second of all: "Best Wii Game"? that isn't saying much my dude, Wii games suck. And don't use "Best Wii Game" as an argument, since Skyrim cannot get that award... not being on the platform and all. Both games have their pro's and con's. Skyward Sword has it's amazing Wii Motion Plus controls that make the game so fun, it has challenging puzzles and nice artsy graphics. Skyrim has one of the biggest worlds of any game in the history of gaming, 100's of quests, sidequests, enemies, etc. I've gotten bored of both games within the first few days of playing them...they're repetitive and get boring after a couple days. Skyrim has a lot of glitches, Skyward Sword has horrible sidequests, and some really dumb plot elements (go fetch a piece for a windmill that you'll turn so it can face a tower and random gibberish like that). Skyward Sword also has some really stupid looking characters including Kikwi's, Groose, Fledge, etc. Skyrim has boring combat and is just repetitive. I could go on forever about what's wrong with these games, but I can sum up what is good within a few paragraphs.
I can't really choose which game is the better of the two at this point, but of course Skyward Sword will win a poll on this site seeing as how IT IS a Zelda site/biased.

skyrim is fun and probably my fav game of 2011, but ive been playing zelda all my life and each game really connects with me

Pretty much everything that TRLahti said two posts above me is correct.
First off, I never understood why people try to compare two games that shouldn't even be compared in the first place. These games are complete polar opposites, different developers, different consoles, concepts, etc.
With that being said, even if you were to state reasons why Skyward Sword was a better game, the OP has pretty bad reasons IMO. First off, saying that IGN gave Skyrim a 9.5 and SS a 10 is the worst way to defend an argument. Every single critical review of a game is biased, no matter how much or big the bias, it has bias.
Also, nothing in this world is perfect. So therefore no game deserves a perfect score. Skyrim gets glitchy at times, and SS motion controls are somewhat buggy as well. Those are two facts which I can think of off the top of my head that make Skyward Sword and Skyrim not perfect.
Last but not least, saying that Skyward Sword won best Wii game, best Zelda game, etc. isn't that hard of a challenge to overcome. TBH there aren't that many good Wii games, and the last few Zelda games IMO were pretty pathetic. If you want to say that SS is better than Skyrim because it won those awards, I can simply say that Skyrim is better than Skyward Sword because it won video game of the year for 2011. Both arguments are flawed, but atleast with video game of the year SS had a chance to win that.
Not to mention that asking this question is pointless because your asking it on a Zelda forum lol? You're obviously going to see the majority say SS, but like I said before, the two can't be compared. Each game is completley different, therefore it requires different criteria to be judged.
Last thing, this post isn't ment to bash anybody lol. I'm just stating my opinion on why these two games can't be compared

I love skyward sword and skyrim equally but I hate the people that dis skyward sword because it's for the wii, skyward sword should of won game of the year for the near impossible odds it was against.

I have not played Skyrim, but I don't feel like I really need to play it in order to know Skyward Sword is better. Now, as arrogant as that may sound at first, hear me out. I am aware of what Skyrim has going for it on many levels. As a whole, I can't see it being a real flop in terms of quality. There's one big thing for each game, though, that irks it above or below the other.
With Skyward Sword it was, of course, the way they handled the motion control. Never before has a full action RPG of this scale been done with this level of motion control (i.e. Wii Motion Plus, PlayStation Move, and Kinect level as opposed to standard Wii remote controls). They handled everything so well in regards to the control that this is clearly an innovation of massive proportions, and in terms of that kind of innovation Skyrim simply does not measure up.
The thing with Skyrim that lowers my opinion of it is that it features one of the two kinds of content that, from a moral standpoint, I absolutely refuse to view. Those are the pointlessly/mindlessly violent and the pornographic. Obviously, Skyrim falls under the first of the two. I was considering playing it at one point to get a taste of a WRPG (since I'm such a big JRPG fanboy to begin with), and while for the most part the game seems really nice and well-done, a video I saw focusing on the combat animation completely ruined it for me. I'm sorry, but I would not deign to play something with those pointless decapitations.

I felt like skyrim was very similar to its other games in its series: oblivion, morrowind, etc. Same landscapes, mostly the same enemies, same items and weapons, same races, same experience. The only difference was the story and dragons.
Skyward Sword however brought so many new things to the series. New fighting mechanics, graphics, items, races and terrain, and new puzzles. My vote goes to SS

ok after seeing all the response to this thread i will now show the reason why i made this Thread. I am now going to post a very similar post like the first one, on a skyrim forum and see the response. the link to the Thread is http://skyrimforums.org/threads/skyward-sword-v-skyrim.4157/. i was hoping to show that even though the thread was on a heavily biased site, no messages such as " skyrim is ****" or " bethseda can suck me" would be posted. and they haven't. this show that zelda fans are decent people. only time can tell what respones i get on the other site. thanking u for participating
