Honestly I don't care too much, I'm fine with it as it is but I'd be fine with it if he had been the boss, too.
On the one hand I'm always in for easter eggs and cameos from other games. And I'm not that much of a story/timeline nitpicker to say that it would've been a bad thing if Link had defeated him and not some random Goron as that one line of text in OoT possibly implies (besides, who says that that "ancient Hero of the Gorons" has to be a Goron himself?).
On the other hand I'd rather have a more tactical fight with a less visually impressive enemy (Ghirahim) than a probably rather boring battle with a cool-looking massive monster (I'm thinking of bosses like Morpheel here, and I also didn't like the OoT Volvagia battle that much, it was basically pound with the hammer, hide on the wall of the platform during his next turn, pound with hammer again, hide on the wall again and so on).

However Skyward Sword was full of great and new ideas, it did not need old ideas.

Saying that is like saying the origin story of the Master Sword shouldn't have been part of the story. Volvagia has been in one game (Zelda II doesn't really count). The Master Sword had been in 4 (arguably 5) games before. Even more so with Ganondorf and the Triforce. If you want to talk about re-using old ideas, those are the topics to use. Volvagia doesn't come anywhere near that with this argument. Not trying to harp on you. I'm just saying that argument doesn't hold up.

I too, am against bringing back Volvagia.

Personally, I'm against bringing back Volvagia. Unless they introduced some nifty twist to his battle. However considering we are told in OoT that he was defeated with the hammer, there's not much they could do to make it interesting. I never particularly enjoyed the original battle with him in the first place, however the story was interesting and it would be nice to get some cameo information on what happened.

Pretty much sums up my opinion. There's nothing you can do with a beaten boss that has backstory explaining exactly how to beat it (with a hammer). Gives a forced, gimmicky reason of existence behind a potentially great item.

I pretty much agree. While I'm not actually against Volvagia being in the game -- I really would have liked to see him/her, actually -- a different way of defeat needed to be involved. Of course, since the Megaton Hammer wasn't one of the items, there was no worry of that from the start. But that would need to be used to defeat Volvagia. That's why I think Gorko should have become the Hero of the Gorons. He was already in the game so much, why not have him play a true part in the story? I think it's a true missed opportunity on Nintendo's part. But, oh, well. It didn't affect how good the game was, so I'm not going to complain about it.

You could always, I dunno, send a letter to Nintendo requesting him to make at the least a cameo appearance in the next Zelda release, right? :xd:

It's true that adding Volvagia would add a lot of story elements, and definitely would involve the Goron population in someway or another. Surely, the legendary hero that Darunia was talking about in OoT was a Goron. Then again, we haven't really known them to fight others (though they can). Perhaps the Link or maybe some other character aided the Goron? We don't know. Having Volvagia would be a boon at any rate, despite the fact that some situations would more than likely have to be forced.

I think that just because volvagia was really awesome, it shouldn't be used multiple times. It is good to keep it unique to OoT. Do you think koloktos will be in another game? I don't. I think volvagia is unique to OoT and will stay that way. The only way that volvagia could have been included is if SS Link was the one who was carrying out the old goron story about the hero defeating volvagia.

I don't think this really matters. In a way, you could use this logic to say that Ganondorf/Ganon should have only appeared in one game. Besides, Volvagia's fight was loosely based off of Barba's from Zelda II (which was actually a mistranslation of Volvagia, although there's no canonical connection between the two). Just sayin'.

The only way that volvagia could have been included is if SS Link was the one who was carrying out the old goron story about the hero defeating volvagia.

That's...exactly why Volvagia would have been in SS.
