Nintendo Should the Switch Successor Have a Limited Free Online Run?

A Link In Time

To Overcome Harder Challenges
ZD Legend
At the start of the Switch's lifespan, Nintendo Switch Online was free for the first few months before becoming paid to ease people into the idea of paying for online on Nintendo systems.

Nintendo users tend to be younger than players on other systems, and there is going to be a new group of kids starting gaming on the Switch's successor so offering free online once more for the first few months may get them hooked and keep them subscribing.

Or perhaps the alternate strategy of offering a few months of free online when you buy within the first year or so can be offered.

What are your thoughts?

Do you think Nintendo will offer a free online promotion of some kind, and do you think they should? Or was that a one time thing for the Switch only as Nintendo's first paid online system?

Yeah that sounds like a good idea, they could release a new multi-player game as well to capitalize off of the promotion.

It should have free online play period, because you aren't paying for anything. When you pay for online on consoles you're just paying for permission to play on those servers. The servers themselves already exist, because if they didn't then PC players wouldn't be gaming on them free of charge.

The existence of NSO on switch pretty much guarantees a paid subscription on the next console since Nintendo knows people will pay for it -_-

I'd love a free first few months, but realistically I think they'll just jump straight to a free trial, with a much shorter timeframe, like a week or so. It still lets new players see what online is all about but doesn't let people get too used to free online again.
