Shadows of the Past

My past follows me like a shadow
Behind me at times, leading me at others
Taking my lead, leading me
Reminding me that the past never truly leaves us
But in the end the thing I remember is that
The past, like my shadow, is only a reminder of what it is like to exist
The path I choose is the one that I want, not what it wants
The past and my shadow are one and the same, important to remember, but not to dwell on
