That's a good idea, I always get too many chips.
I normally just eat chips on the side.
It would be on the side. I don't like to eat crisps combined with other food though

Normally on the side. Sometimes, if I don't have lettuce, I'll put a couple in the sandwich.
I wouldn't put potato chips/crisps in a sandwich since the texture doesn't seem to mix well for me but I do often put the other type of chips (fries as some would call them) in a sandwich and that works really nicely.

I have not heard of putting potato chips inside of a sandwich, although it does sound scandalously delicious. The whole concept reminds me a lot of something Dave Lister from Red Dwarf would do, although he'd probably drown it in hot sauce or vindaloo paste. So I am going to have to say I am interested it just varies what is in the sandwich and how big it is.
