Guys, RuneScape 3 was recently released to the general public. I want to hear your thoughts on this wonderful new game! I personally haven't played it yet!

Who still plays Runescape anymore, and since when was there a Runescape 2? I don't remember this.

Looking through photos and reading some information though, I am not interested at all.

But, seriously, people still play that game?

Runescape 2 is likely the version you played, actually (assuming you played at all). It was released in December 2003. It's not a different game, but a rewriting of the engine.

As for my opinion on the topic, well, since I haven't really played Runesacape since circa 2006, it doesn't really apply to me. Though, it does spark some interest in me.

Okay. I booted up RS3. I was treated to two things:
1) A 4 minute long cutscene. This thing had so many faults in it. Firstly, the length of the cutscene. I'm a RuneScape veteran; I've had my acc since 2003. I know the ins and outs of RS, even EoC bulljunk RS. Why am I forced to watch a cutscene? Secondly, the art style is still atrocious. I thought it would get some massive overhaul, but nothing actually came up. Thirdly, the voice acting is atrocious, but I can't really say much because they've always been. ;p

2) SYSTEM UPDATE IN 7:10 - let that speak for itself.

Let's see. The most populated world was only 1133 players - and that was World 4. I remember when World 1 was almost always full, even at night. I played on that world. After the cutscene was up with 3 minutes left on the clock, I was treated to some more explanations of the horribly redesigned UI. Like, it was already bad by the time of 603 RS. Why do they have the faux-MMORPG kind of UI up? tf. And that's about it. I quit immediately and deleted the game.

I think EoC is great. The graphic overhaul isn't here yet. It's going to run on HTML5...there's a Beta for that if you want...but this whole Battle of Lumbridge disapointed the hell out of me. I thought it'd be this epic *** PvP event...but nope...more grinding...I afk divine tears while Saradomin and Zamorak are locked in an endless Kamehameha for 10 weeks...*sigh* Well...at least the NPCs seem to be having fun...

I gave it a look, and I have to say I'm pretty impressed by what they've managed to do; I think people don't give Runescape enough credit for it being a very accessible, browser-based game, and what they've accomplished sure is impressive. I'm not going to start playing it again, I have no real interest in doing that, but on a purely technical standpoint Jagex get 2 big thumbs up from me. A big step-up from the Runescape I remember first seeing with it's wooden animations, blocky characters, and tiny FOV.

But, while it's nice, it's not like it seems to be a game changer and doesn't attract me to start playing. But I can give kudos where it is deserved, and a job well done Jagex developers! :D

Ads out the wazoo, a poor UI, laggy servers DESPITE not having anyone on them, a weak FOV, a half done skill system, and crap graphics is not what I'd call "very accessible". Nor would I call it impressive, considering they did this back in 2003 and back then it was actually quite fun. If this thing were very accessible and actually deserved credit,it woudl have half the player base it did seven years ago. But JaGeX made sure to alienate all of its players with the death of Wildy. They then called themselves restoring things with the February 2011 update - 5 years later - but even then it wasn't half as popular because people were absolutely done with the anti-consumer tactics Jagex pulled [not to mention the graphical updates in that time were fuuuuuuuuguhly]. I know not where the 2006 people went—I'm gonna assume LEAGUE—but the fact is, RuneScape as it is is garbage and deserves to be noted as such, nothing more.

See if you'd read my post properly you'd realise I was talking about this on a purely technical stand-point, and those were what my comments were regarding. My accessibility comment was not in reference to anything you used to attempt to refute it; it requires no installs, takes up a sliver of HDD space, little to no hardware or software knowledge required, no manual server/region migration. That type of thing. I wasn't commenting on whether the gameplay was accessible or not, just the actual application alone. Your very obvious disdain for the game doesn't effect this.

Also, I don't get the points you made... though I did only watch a friend play for a little while, but I didn't see what you saw apparently. The fully customisable and scalable UI was terrific, I don't see how a UI can be poor when you can make it however you like, the FOV and draw distance were impressive by all stretches of the imagination considering the 70 FOV console games of today, when watching my friend play there was no noticeable lag at all and I didn't see any ads, not one, so I don't see how they're 'out the wazoo', and the graphics and animation were quite respectable considering it's a browser-based game which can be displayed in HD resolutions. If the skill system is half-done, I wouldn't know, but the rest of your points... I have no idea if we even were looking at the same game tbh.

I'm afraid runescape can't compete anymore, the argument 'BUT ITS A BROWSER GAME!!!!?!?!' doesn't work because there's SO many other browser games that have 10x better graphics, but no where near as good gameplay. I'm not sure where I'm going with this, but I used to play around 2003 - 2008 and those were my best online gaming days, it's a shame with all these new updates they've commercialised it and given into mainstream MMO's.

They also have 07scape. Seems to me a lot of the bots have moved there, but I don't skill much anymore, so maybe I'm wrong.

Bots don't only skill, do you not train even combat anymore? Or do like green dragons for money?

07scape which is also members only? No thanks. Jagex keeps gimping the F2P playerbase despite them being the most ardent supporters of the game. Ugh.

Regarding 07scape, though, it's not that the bots have gone, but a lot of the oldschool players have gone. Because Jagex forces updates like RS3 on us, they just grab a membership card from Walmart or wherever and play some of the GOOD RuneScape. :I

I'm maxed except for summoning. Don't need to train combat. And nah, PvM and skilling bores me. I PK, gamble, and occasionally merch.

I don't get this...all RS3 is is customizable interface, World Events, and HTML5. HTML5 I can see getting upset over if they actually forced it on us, but you have the option to play it on Java and HTML5 isn't even out yet due to delays. The World Event can be ignored outside the initial cutscene and you can customize your interface to look exactly like the old ones--they even have it set up for you on presets.
