Retcon in Zelda

Exactly what it says on the tin.

Excluding the CDi games and focusing only on the 16 canon installments of Zelda; can we list or theorise what has been retconned or reworked or changed from the oldest Zelda game up to Skyward Sword?

This is just a little something i figured some people could spend a lot of time doing on the theory branch since it is all but dead now thanks to the HH.

The temple of time location was retconed for Skyward Sword (after it was confirmed that the ToT is in fact the Sealed temple

Spiritofzant, the Zelda Theory subforum has been experiencing a revival as of late. No need to worry.

The names of the majority of villages in Adventure of Link were retconed with the reveal of the sages in Ocarina of Time.

The origins of the Master Sword and Triforce were retconed via the whole of Skyward Sword's story.

The cutscene following completion of the Arbiter's Grounds in Twilight Princess reveals the measures the sages took in preventing Ganondorf's rise to power on the Child timeline.

you seem to misunderstand what retcon means, a retcon is when something is changed from what it canonically was

The structure of dungeon and overworld has changed much since the inception of the series. The two elements are now largely blended together with the overworld boasting much more enemies and dungeons than ever before. Skyward Sword also broke from the norms of traditional 3D installments in that there was no longer a particular dungeon theme but rather several enmeshed into one which was best seen by the juxtaposition of the upper and lower halves of the Ancient Cistern.

ALIT's post is actually legit. Those are examples of retcon, especially since the official timeline has been revealed...

As of The Wind Waker, the Master Sword requires the prayers of two [new] sages - Fado (Fodo in Japanese) and Laruto. Both of whom were reawakened as Makar and Medli, respectively.

The biggest retcon by far (and the only game placement-related one) was when WW kicked LttP out of its place as sequel to OoT. From then until HH, it became a difficult game to place since we couldn't be sure how many of its ties to OoT were forsaken. Finally, the retcon was completed when the HH told us exactly how LttP still follows OoT.

Sleeping Zelda is no longer the original Zelda, if she ever was. That was rejected right when LttP was released.

MC is no longer where the hat tradition started, if it ever was. Replaced with SS (with room for the tradition starting much earlier).

I believe that the Temple of Time has been canonically moved to the woods, even in the OoT-era.

The MS was no longer created by the Sages. (unless they were around before SS and helped Hylia with the Goddess Sword?)

OoT retconned much of the IW, though that continued to be retconned as described above. It is now no longer the first time the Triforce is discovered.

...

In an effort to induce some discusson... With the possible exception of WW, I think most of these were smart moves, merely showing an oversight in the original works. For example, Sleeping Zelda made it virtually impossible for more than one game to precede LoZ. It was important to abandon this tale in order to open up the timeline to more thought-out ones. Lately they've been trying to make them more vague so they don't have to repeat this in the future - that is, they need only add, not contradict.

@several posters above: Retcon and canon apply to story, not gameplay. Dungeon style and linearity aren't "canon" elements.

My two cents here is just to say that I thought that the map in TP was moved slightly in focus so that it would seem logical the forest grew around Hyrule after it became kind of neglected during Ganondorf's rule in OoT and so grew round so the Lost Woods incooporated the Temple of Time... the area became known as the Sacred Grove. This is slightly irrelevent though, just to say I don't think that was technically a retcon.
