It's occurred to me that I did not rate Bojack Horseman.
This is one of my favorite shows out there, if not THE favorite. While the show may look like an obnoxious adult comedy on the surface, Bojack manages to explore some pretty dark topics. I also think this show has a very honest approach towards the themes it deals with; such as mental illness, relationships, drug use, etc. The cast is also very solid and the supporting characters have really come into their own as the series has gone on, which definitely works to strengthen the show. ((Quick appreciation of the character Hollyhock for being perhaps the most realistic character I've seen in a show. The way she reacts to characters and jokes, even throw away jokes that most characters brush off, give an honest portrayal of an insecure teenage girl.))
Anyways, while Bojack Horseman handles depressing topics, it also manages to do this in a world decorated with anthropomorphic animals and insane antics. There are so many jokes in Bojack Horseman that so many of them are easy to miss. There is a guarantee that there is a animal pun in the background of a scene or a reference joke to a previous episode. Characters like Vincent Adultman (which nobody acknowledges is just three children stacked with a trenchcoat) are hilarious. The comedy and ridiculous world of Hollywoo strikes a fine balance with the depressing themes of Bojack Horseman.
10/10 I highly recommend anyone watch this show. I've rewatched it so many times now, but I still get a kick in the gut during the emotional moments, or find a joke that I missed the first hundred times through.
