Tron Legacy 10/10 - Home Video
Critics are dumb. For some reason they had a problem with the sequel to Disney's 1982 pioneering masterwork Tron, the grandaddy of all fully CGI movies today. And for some odd reason nobody showed up to see it in theaters. Crazy world. Legacy has all the makings of a blockbuster smash hit. I remember wanting to see it so badly just from the trailers alone. I remember my dad and I braving a snow storm so he could take me to see it in theaters on Christmas eve. I can't even remember the last time I wanted to see a movie so badly I'd risk life and limb. Actually, yeah, the last time was when I went to see Tron Legacy.
Everything about Tron Legacy is top notch and highly imaginative. First of all, anything with Jeff Bridges in it. But everything from the plot to the themes to the acting and pacing is excellent, but all that is even overshadowed by the stunningly phenomenal design of The Grid. There's just nothing else like it anywhere. This movie is a visual masterpiece to rival Blade Runner. The action is astounding, exciting, suspenseful and stylish af. Gives The Matrix a run for its money. The drama is superb. The score - holy smokes the soundtrack courtesy of visionaries Daft Punk is absolutely mind blowing. They even make an appearance in one scene as nightclub disk jockeys complete with their signature helmets.
It's been a while since I watched this movie. Long enough that I was able to appreciate it like I was watching it anew. Anyone owes it to themselves to take a gander at least once. Chances are it won't be your last.
Unfortunately, it's Disnich and the House of Mouse is exclusively in the business of producing offensively rancid fecal matter these days. Since it under performed at the box office the sequel has been kept in development hell for years. At this point it will be a mercy if it never happens. I cringe to think of what godawful pile of crap Disnich would make of a sequel. Leading man Garrett Hedlund deserves all the starring roles he can get. And I used to like Olivia Wilde before her career tanked and she became a full time borderline psychotic tumbrlina for a living. But such is the sad sorry pathetic state of Hollywood.
Legacy however stands as a worthy enough ending, never mind an immensely enjoyable and delightfully unique film in its own right.
