Popular Things You Find Unnecessary or Don't 'Get'

What are some popular things you don't use, or just don't understand?

For me watches has always been one. I don't see the point of paying a load of money for some annoying piece of metal on my wrist which does things that my phone already does for me.

I also don't really 'get' tablets unless you're using it for drawing. Having a laptop and a phone feels like enough for me so having a product that fits between them is kinda not really necessary.

Instagram is another thing I don't really get. It seems like Facebook just with less functionality? Maybe I'm getting old :P

Paying an additional fee to play your own games online.

I don't understand the value of PS+, Xbox Live, or Nintendo's version to basically force people to pay a fee just to play their own games online, on an internet service they already pay for.

Online multiplayer should be an included feature with games, not an additional service that you have to pay, or else no online multiplayer at all.

As such, I refuse to pay for such services, and is the main reason why I don't pay for it for my Switch.

Another popular thing I don't get is vodka. I like spirits, I like alcoholic drinks, but vodka to me has no flavor, and seems to exist just for making a non-alcoholic drink, alcoholic.

And another popular thing I don't understand is modern pop music. I have a whole tangent I could go on with modern pop, but suffice to say, I don't understand what's so appealing about singers that can't sing without the aid of auto-tune, "musicians" playing music that don't require you to learn an instrument, and the same over-produced, awful sounding "bass" that doesn't have the timbre of a real bass, and drums that aren't being played by a drummer, because they're all time-aligned to a beat, and are just samples.

Maybe I am getting old, but I prefer when musicians actually had to perform at their best on a record, not settling for a "good enough" performance that can be polished to be perfect.

Reality TV.

Not ones like cooking shows where people actually showcase talent and improve, but things like Love Island and I'm A Celebrity and Big Brother.

I 'get' why these are popular, some people like them ironically and some are just genuinely interested because they're fine with lowbrow entertainment.

But these shows are unnecessary, spend money on making a show where you can use your talents as writers and directors. Get creative. Or just make something with a point...

I’ve tried multiple times to get into Twitter, but I just don’t get it. I mean, I get why it’s likable for people, I just can’t get into it for some reason. Which is surprising because I enjoy other forms of social media :shrugs:

branded water. Not water sold in stores that is sold as a necessity that happens to have a company attached to them. I mean literal brands, that tries to associate themselves with some kind of status or lifestyle.

The cool kids in my school all drank something called Imsdal which they sold for about 3 bucks per 33cl can.

It's ****ing water.

To me it's smart phones. I don't have a smart phone, and I will only get one when I can pay for it. Alot of kids now have phones when they don't need them, like they might be six and they'll have their own phone. I just don't get why so young kids use the internet. Too much on there is bad, I don't like it when I see it, so I can't imagine what its like for a six yr old.

But that's just me.

Social media. Literally all of it.

Look, I get it if it's being used to stay in touch with contacts you've met before who you aren't going to see very often.

But this whole grossly commercialized mess of everyone broadcasting their entirely scripted fake life to total strangers they don't even know exist for the world to see is just... pathetic and often scary. People, groups and companies using it to push agendas, lie and ruin lives, careers, business and creative projects by pitching fits, issuing threats and creating all sorts of pathetic drama. CEOs have been fired, popular commercial band names have been ruined, and people have committed suicide because of this insanity. That's to say nothing of the social media companies themselves, who push their own agendas and harass and deplatform people with impunity, controlling the public narrative by choosing who can and can not be heard.

I just don't know why people put up with it. Getting involved with social media is just begging to get burned sooner or later. At best you have to put up with constant harassment from total worthless degenerates with nothing else to do with their wasted existence strangers, at worst you could say something "wrong" and lose your job. Or get thrown in jail since politicians have made that a thing. As much as they complain about it all, people just keep wading through that cancerous mess. It's done a serious head job on young impressionable minds who get carried away with it.

For me it's:
  1. Cigarette
  2. Porn
  3. Alcohol
  4. Tiktok,Bigo live and stuff like that
  5. Romantic relationships at studying age
The misconception that smoking is cool has lured lot of youth into smoking which has negative effects on their health. Not only that, smoking also affects his family

This is a new and sick addiction that is plaguing my country. Students, without doing assignments, projects stare at the screen for hours looking at this ****.

Alcohol is capable of pushing a whole family into bankruptcy. In some cases, drunkards torture their spouse and children. Also he can't even recover himself from that addiction as it has side effects in the form of withdrawl symptoms.

I see people doing weird stuff just to gain popularity. I see complete idiocy shown in news channels. Is popularity more important than life?
Yes people even risk their lives for this

Mobile Phones... Or at least Smart Phones to be more precise. Why do you need to have access to internet and everything everywhere? When I go out, I do it to get away from that for a little while. Why would I bring it with me everywhere I go?

This is the thing that angers me a lot. Once, an acquaintance gave her two year old a mobile phone and she was like "Ooh look at my son using a smart phone! He is indeed smart!"

Young children lose social skills and do academically poorly. Their eyes are glued to mobile screens. Kids below 14 years of age shouldn't be able to use phone.
@VikzeLink did a blog on this. According to him:
It probably won't be long until you need an app to go to the bathroom, or you won't be allowed to poop

Also, I see youngsters, who are supposed to serve their community at this age go together holing hands wasting hours in a relationships that probably wouldn't last for lond and is inherent

totally agree. I once wanted a phone last year because EVERYONE i knew had one, and I just felt left out. But I decided I didn't want to be addicted to a phone, plus I couldn't get one anyway. The tablet I am using isn't even mine, it's my mom's. A phone is basically used to call someone, and little kids under the age of 10 don't really need to call anybody. I have a calling app on here, so I don't really need a phone anyway, but I just use it in case of emergencies when I need to contact mom.

I only use technology to connect with you guys and watch youtube when I feel like it. I also use it to listen to music when I draw, but that's mostly it. Kids don't really need one, heck, I don't even need this tablet, but I'm going to keep using it cause you're my friends, and I like talking to you guys.

I'm also going to make a patreon this year sometime to start making money off my art. But 2 yr olds definitely don't need their own personal phone, like, what?!
