Hello! I love poems, so this is a thread to post poems that you like. They can be your own poems or just poems you enjoy.
I did a couple quick searches and didn't find any thread like this in the past couple years...

2X (by me, Magatha) I put it in a spoiler because it is a bit long. I actually wrote it for a poetry slam.
Twice Exceptional.
That’s what the education system calls me.
Both “Gifted & Talented” and “Special Needs”
Full of Contradictions, I’m a lock with no key.
ADHD and writing difficulty, my paperwork reads.

Twice Exceptional.
Both struggling and soaring at the same time.
I’m outside the crowd, in my own little nook.
Taking tests all alone like I’ve committed some crime.
My head’s in the clouds, my nose in a book.

Twice Exceptional.
I’m the kid who solves complex equations in her head.
Explains Science with ease, because to me it is fun.
But a Writing assignment scares me, I’m filling with dread.
I try hard for hours, but nothing gets done.

Twice Exceptional.
Hyper. Distracted. Can never sit still.
Making art helps to steady my fidgeting hands.
But at school I can’t focus, so they gave me a pill.
With all the things inside my head, I don’t think anyone really understands.

Nobody really understands, the wars in my mind.
Mystical creatures, some loved and some feared.
My eagles and dragons, Beware: not all are kind.
So many people see me as just somebody weird.

Science, my friend, is fantastic and fun.
A huge eagle carrying me, with the wind in my face.
We fly to great heights, see the battles we won?
But there is something ahead, a dark sinister place…

A terrible dragon breathes fire, blacking the sky.
With razor sharp blank papers, it is a frightening sight.
This beast is my worst nightmare, but I don’t fully know why.
My worst fear of all, this monster, is my struggle to write.

This horrendous creature strikes a melancholy chord,
No weapons can pierce its coarse paper scales.
For it can only be slain with a pen, not a sword.
A pen to mark it and to free all those it jails.
To defeat it is to conquer written word.

The Riddle of Strider (Tolkien)
"All that is gold does not glitter.
Not all those who wander are lost.
The old that is strong does not wither,
deep roots are not reached by the frost.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken.
A light from the shadows shall spring.
Renewed shall be the blade that was broken.
The crownless again shall be King."

Hello! So I suppose this is my writing thread. I had made it in the entertainment category so people could share poems they enjoy, just like there are topics there for sharing books or songs. But since the thread was moved to fan works, I guess it should be used for original content now.

So here: have a poem. It is about my younger sibling.

Oh, Brother.

Brother, I love ya, but could you please learn to sing?
Your monotonous chants are headache inducing.

Brother, I love ya, and I know you love the keys,
But "Heart and Soul" is tiresome and I will scream if I hear one more "Fleur de lis."

Oh, Brother of mine, you've sure taken a pound.
How the hell did you get your bicycle wheel so out-of-round?

Brother, I love ya, but you lack common sense.
You've torn your new swimsuit jumping over a fence.

Brother, I love ya, but check your pockets before you dive in.
Cell phones are not meant to go for a swim.

Brother, I love ya, but your lactose intolerance causes such strife.
In my humble opinion, you should be banned from ice cream for life.

Brother, I love ya, despite all above.
Please know I only mock you out of sisterly love.

Invictus

William Ernest Henley

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.

O Captain! My Captain!

O Captain! My Captain! our fearful trip is done;
The ship has weather'd every rack, the prize we sought is won;
The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring:
But O heart! heart! heart!
O the bleeding drops of red,
Where on the deck my Captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead.
O Captain! My Captain! rise up and hear the bells;
Rise up—for you the flag is flung—for you the bugle trills;
For you bouquets and ribbon'd wreaths—for you the shores a-crowding;
For you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning;
Here captain! dear father!
This arm beneath your head;
It is some dream that on the deck,
You've fallen cold and dead.
My Captain does not answer, his lips are pale and still;
My father does not feel my arm, he has no pulse nor will;
The ship is anchor'd safe and sound, its voyage closed and done;
From fearful trip, the victor ship, comes in with object won;
Exult, O shores, and ring, O bells!
But I, with mournful tread,
Walk the deck my captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead.

A birthday poem.
Count your garden by the flowers,
Never by the leaves that fall,
Count your days by golden hours,
Don’t remember clouds at all;
Count your nights by stars, not shadows,
Count your life with smiles, not tears,
And with joy on this, your birthday,
Count your age by friends, not years.

Neither of these poems are mine. If you want to read original content, check out the poetry competition thread! http://zeldadungeon.net/forum/showthread.php?t=49800

I really like your poems, Magatha. Good job once again, you did great. The first one reminded me of The Dark Voyage. :yes:
