A lot of what I say on here is censored, as in real life, I do drop things like "****," "****," "ass," "mother****er," "bastard," and such.
I find the use of swear words completely and totally arbitrary, as linguists have noted multiple times that swear words, or words we consider vulgar, have changed in the past.
Like, we have the phrases, "white meat," and "dark meat" to refer to chicken breasts and chicken thighs, because the use of the words, "breast" and "thigh" were considered a bit taboo for the period.
Language is funny like that.
However, when it comes to swearing or cursing, much like how it comes to anything else in your life, you're free to do, and free to do not.
Like anything else, there's a time and place for it.
And, like I also pointed out in another thread regarding swearing, I argued that it isn't unilaterally a bad thing in all cases.
There's different classes of swearing.
There's Dysphemistic, which urges the listener to think negatively about something. Like, if I wanted to call Bubsy 3D a game that's "complete ****ing dog****," that'd be an example of it.
There's Idiomatic, which is a casual use of profanity to indicate a relaxed atmosphere or vibe. Like, if I see you and say, "Hey, come shoot the **** with us," that'd be an example of it.
There's Emphatic, which is a use of profanity to emphasize how surprisingly good something is. Like, if I'm having a really awesome milkshake and I say, "This milkshake is the ****ing tits," that's an example of it.
There's Cathartic, which is a use of profanity to help shed off frustration, annoyance, or deal with something painful. Like, if I stub my toe and I weave a tapestry of obscenity in response, that's an example of it.
The one that's really only harmful is Abusive, which is using profanity to bring something down, insult them, or otherwise bring them harm. The real trick here is whether or not you're the instigator in using it. Like if unprovoked tell you to "go **** yourself" that's abusive, but if I react to your harassment of me and I tell you to "go **** yourself," that's not abusive swearing, but cathartic swearing.
In general, I start out as politically correct, or I try to watch what I say, but because of my upbringing, where swearing is normal, I sometimes slip, and really, that's the type of Chu you all see on here.
But again, not everyone likes swearing. So, be mindful of that.
