However, do people receive alerts when they receive warnings? If so, then I have no further words to say. If not, that feature would be greatly appreciated to help with knowing when you received a warning and for how many points.
I can state with utmost certainty (cuz i have been infracted) that there are measure in place and levels of said measures.

Yes, there is. In every member's profile there is a list of infractions and ban history. The issue is the SB is a different system and thus not automatically logged like on the forums. As Jimmy mentioned we will try and start using the system for SB warnings as well to make it easier though.
Thank you, because the shoutbox warnings are the only ones I really get and it frustrates me immensely that none of the warnings are formal.

Not for the shoutbox, though, and that's the only place I ever get warnings.

EDIT: I looked and I can't even find the page that lists my infractions even though I know I have them so I suggest making that page easier to find because I had no idea it even existed.

As has been said, we're currently discussing ways to fix this. We'll probably end up issuing regular account warnings every time we give a verbal warning in the SB. That way all SB warnings and infractions are logged like with every other area of the forum.

Also, we didn't realize members couldn't see their own warnings and infractions. We'll work on that asap.

So i spoke to Repentence about an idea for the forums, where we have notices on the front page the "face" of the forums if you will i was wondering if we could highlight a random thread from time to time, for example going via rota by each section and picking a random thread to go up on notices, and possibly putting one of the fan works (at random) on the notices, i think it could give a bit of exposure to some threads people don't often see and some fan works which could deserve a chance to shine.
A great idea for the forums. Bringing notice to good threads where thoughtful discussion is going on would probably help bring some notice and increase said discussion. Additionally, bringing notice to fan works will help bolster the community and increase the interest in sharing fan works.

Aye Simwae, plus it generates interest for everyone else and it makes the fan works creators proud in the knowledge that their work reached the front page of the forums

I'd honestly have to agree with Blue on this one. There is little to no ruleset on what's right and what's wrong in the forums, and thus some people get put behind bars while others get a slap on the wrist for both doing the same exact thing.

It may just be my opinion, but I feel the current moderators should head on over to the Terraria Community Forums and chat with the moderators, and administators, there. Good examples are Matsu, Tunnel King, Leinfors, and Nike Leon. All four of them have been known for taking just actions and going by the rules for things that need to be taken care of. They take action for everyone that does something wrong, whether it be a warning (same as infraction), a ban pro-tempore, or even a permanent ban. Thing is, they don't sit idly by while chaos reigns. They take action, and thus the Terraria Community Forums are a nice place because of them.
This is completely and utterly wrong. Please give examples of this. Please give me examples of where members have said stuff on the actual level that you and Blue said. Not to mention, please give me examples of where members have done this not once, not twice, but on multiple occasions.

There is nothing wrong with the current state of the forums. Ask 90% of the community. In the past people would be banned and infracted for silly things such as posting a thread twice, even mentioning the word "sex", spamming. You guys probably don't realise it but the team is incredibly lenient, to the point were we let a lot of things slide and try prevention techniques rather than punish every single member which would cause nothing bit uproar.

The reason you and Blue have been punished is because you've said some extremely inappropriate stuff and you actually involve other members into these comments. Not to mention it's not a one off thing were we'd let it slide or give you guys a warning. That's why both of you were punished, clear as day, and I'm sure the majority of members will agree with the decision.

Honestly it's really annoying to hear from members that were unfair and bias since we routinely discuss these things to make sure we're the exact opposite. And if you see a case of this in the future, please make us aware so we can deal with it. It's hard to deal with things when they're brought up weeks and months ahead of when the actual incident happened.

The fact that you are so lenient is the problem. You don't give us formal warnings for anything in the shoutbox, and so we can't keep track of it. You don't care to always ban people because of the rules, and there are a lot of things that even that mods have done that are technically against the rules, which makes the rules almost useless because no one is caring to follow them, and so now it's really just the mods and admins that are deciding the line between what is and isn't okay, and then not telling the users. Truth be told, I just really want the rules to be changed so they either match the standard that the mods are using at the moment, or the mods to be more strict and match what the rules say, because at the moment it's so confusing because despite the fact that sex isn't supposed to be talked about outside of the MD, it's being talked about in the SB on a daily basis, and so what the mods are saying is wrong and what they're saying is right no longer matches the official document that tells all the users, so the users are completely ignorant as to what the rules actually are.

And don't say "You are given warnings". People should not have to be given warnings. I never meant to break any rules. I did so because I'm not even sure what the rules even are anymore because this place is complete anarchy. And not only that, but those warnings were not formal in any way shape or form, and so you can't even be certain if I heard them, or if I remember that they even happened.

Don't say I was banned this time for the same exact thing, because I did say different things each time. And that's the problem. I have no idea what is and isn't okay territory. And you might tell me not to talk about sex at all then, but then it isn't fair because you allow other users to do so.

So all in all, this is what I want to see:

  • Formal warnings for the shoutbox.
  • The rules either updated, or....
  • The mods defend the rules more strictly than they are currently
So I think the leniency is the problem. I'm not saying I shouldn't have been banned. I'm not saying what I did wasn't wrong. I'm just saying that I'm so confused at the moment about what is and isn't okay that it would probably be easier to navigate the world's largest maze with my eyes closed.

Yet were insisting to me last night that what you did was completely fine.

Because the Sb has a different set of rules and that's why we're more lenient. A simple "stop this" is better than a formal warning because the Sb moves so fast that by the time someone has sent a formal warning, and then replied to, that the person in question could have went over the top. Informal warnings are prevention techniques.

Though we have actually discussed a formatted system for warnings now, so people can see. I also made a SB ban thread last week so we can track and archive bans for future reference.

What?

Every time someone is banned, infracted, warned, it's because they're breaking rules. Stop scapegoating people to justify your point. You keep on insisting that we're not punishing others when A, you have given no factual examples of this, and B, you have no insight to when we do warn and infract others.

Plus every case is situational and therefore it makes it easier to be more flexible with our moderating actions. For example, a conversation about sex between a few members isn't exactly that bad, but randomly saying "(Insert member) ****ed Reggie in the ass" is completely crossing the line and is unacceptable. That's why you can't completely say "No sex talk is allowed because of A" because every case is situational. Other cases are more inappropriate than others and yours was an example of that.

I don't know what is so confusing. Saying "(Insert member) ****ed someone in the ass" is completely out of order and I would have took action against anyone who said that. We don't ban people for simply mentioning sex; the majority of members are mature enough to discuss it. As I said cases are situational. We'll take action once we feel members are crossing the line or are making other members uncomfortable.

It's not hard to follow. We have adjusted the rules somewhat, but there's only so much we can do. We don't an unflexible ban rules system that says "No sex talk allowed" because that's ridiculous. That's were judgement comes in.

So wait a minute, let me get this right. The several warnings you've had over the past couple of months, the multiple SB bans you've had, the forum ban and you're telling us that you don't understand and that's why you said what you said? Please, you full well know what you said was out of line and you are lucky to get a week SB ban in truth because the new SB ban system we have set up takes a much more linear approach. I'm aware of what goes on in the SB and I haven't witnessed anyone - who hasn't been banned - say anything on the lines of: "(Insert member) ****ed Reggie in the ass", talking about sucking on a man's nipples constantly, and even telling a detailed and graphic story about someone getting impaled through their sexual organs. So yes, we enforce the rules when members cross the line or have a history of warnings and continue to repeat such behavior.

I didn't say you said /exactly/ the same thing, I said they're similar. You're acting like you don't know when full well you do. What you do is crossing the line. Just because you say something equally as inappropriate or disgusting doesn't mean it's right. It's like me getting banned for posting porn and the coming back and posting a graphic novel and then being confused.

1. We're actually doing this now just so we can archive things for reference.

2. The rules have been updated, but as I said things are still going to be situational. A mature conversation about sex is not all that bad (we might tell people to discuss said topic in the MD though), but crossing the line will result in further action being taken. There's a clear difference between mentioning sex and what you said or have said.

3. It's dammed if you do dammed if you don't. In the past moderators would ban members on the spot for mentioning anything related to sex. So we try to be more lenient and now we're wrong doing that too. Honestly the best method is to judge things as they happen. When I, or other mods, feel someone has crossed the line, we'll bring it up the staff chat and discuss it and then we'll take action. That's how everything is handled and it's made things an lot easier and more laid back around here while still enforcing rules when things to go too far.

Just don't say anything over the top or that can make other members feel uncomfortable. We don't want that kind of environment nor do we want complaints from other members.

I'm just going to stop talking now because JC keeps misinterpreting what I'm saying and at this point it's pretty much useless to keep explaining myself.

So instead, I'm just going to repeat my suggestions:
  • Formal warnings for the shoutbox (Which as far as I know are already being worked on.
  • Maybe a seperate set of rules for the shoutbox? Really, I think that if the shoutbox is going to have different rules, it's important to have a set of them.
Also, I will say one thing. I know what I did was wrong. I know what other people do is okay. I just want a line.

ALL

I

WANT

IS

A

LINE

THAT

SEPERATES

WHAT

IS

OKAY

AND

WHAT

IS

NOT

And, since the forum rules don't seem to apply to the shoutbox, and since there are no SB specific rules, there is none.
