Nostalgic Music

Well this is my first thread, hopefully it hasn't been done before.

Basically, are there any songs from your childhood that just make you remember the good ol' days? Could be from anything, from traditional music, to movie or even game soundtracks.

To set you off, my personal nostalgic piece of music is this, from The Lion King.

Thing is, I didn't realise it until I just recently rewatched the movie. I nearly teared up, it took me back that much. I mean, I've heard the other songs a lot since, but not the orchestrated stuff, meaning it had way more of an impact.

A runner up would probably be anything from Toy Story, probably You've Got A Friend In Me.

So yeah, discuss and all that.

Definitely agree when it comes to Yu-Gi-Oh!. I remember always looking forward to Saturday mornings just because of this show. Oh, and I can't forget about the card shop days either. After each episode would end; my dad and I would go to the local card shop together with all the other Yu-Gi-Oh players. It was soo much fun getting to know other people who liked the same things I did. Its too bad that it had to end though :(.

The music that I consider nostalgic during my childhood were mostly from cartoon shows and boy bands like the Backstreet Boys. Of course Ocarina of time's soundtrack will always be considered as well. Here's some of the music that I thought I would share too:

Pokemon Theme Song
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JuYeHPFR3f0

<3 Pikachu and all of the cute Pokemon! I was watching an episode on the Boomerang channel this evening and I was almost close to crying. Can't believe how much time has flown by :kawaii:. I should re watch all of the old episodes sometime before I go back to school. But, anyway all of Pokemon's music whether it'd be the tv shows or the movies were amazing!

98 Degrees with Stevie Wonder True To Your Heart
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yQQDzI55vc

Don't judge! This song was epic beyond compare when it came to Disney movies. The Band was alright though (98 Degrees not Stevie Wonder), but all of a sudden they disappeared. I honestly don't remember another song they made after Mulan was released. :(:(

N Sync - Bye Bye Bye
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eo-KmOd3i7s

I remember playing this song too many times. It was still good stuff though.

Ghost in the Shell- Inner Universe
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EIVgSuuUTwQ

This will always be my favorite opening for GITS. I don't like the other ones because they're not as epic like this one is. Didn't the anime have a videogame too during the first season? I can't remember. But, I love the Major! <3333333333

Cowboy Bebop in "Goodnight Julia"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u92kvmB_6SY

I have too many favorites when it comes to this anime, but "goodnight Julia" was the first thing that popped in my head for this thread. I know this song was probably meant for Julia, but last weeks episode showed the saxophone man playing it, so in a way its kind of his theme song too..

Oh, Saxophone man! I <3 that guy too! I think I'm going to re watch that episode just for him lol.:lol:

Good thread by the way. You helped me bring back a lot of memories. =)

The Bangles - Walk Like an Egyptian: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKzLN5SX8SU
Back when it aired every day on the radio I kept a blank cassette in my jambox (this shows my age) ready to record the song whenever it came on. Finally I got it, but of course that Christmas I got their album Different Light which had WLaE as well as some of their other hits.

Michael Jackson - Billie Jean: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zi_XLOBDo_Y
Loved the song & video when they came out, and did my best albeit poor attempt at dancing like him while my dad was videoing my sister and me decorating the Christmas tree in 1983 (the first Christmas at our new house .. we moved there the end of October).

Metallica - Escape: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Be0A4JiX1r4
The song that introduced me to metal, which is my overall favorite genre of music. I went to my friend/neighbor's house whose older sister was a Metallica fan, and this song had just started playing when I got there. I loved it, and my friend's sister dubbed a copy of the album for me. At the time (1985) Ride the Lightning was their most recent album.

Beastie Boys - Fight for Your Right: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBShN8qT4lk
Everyone at my school loved this song when it came out in 1986. I was a 5th grader and excited & nervous at the same time about being on the verge of junior high (or middle school as it's more commonly referred to now).

Frogger Theme (Atari 2600): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCnjgAkDXvk
First video game I have memory of playing, so naturally the music always stuck with me.

Oh boy... This means I have to go more than 30 years back with some songs but I will keep my list a bit short :P

This always remember me at the time in 1977 when the dark days for Christmas arrived and I was excited about presents - Give a little bit - Supertramp

And even though it is not my fav movie I always cherish the music of Grease because it was the first movie ever I saw in the theaters and that was in 1978. Frankie Valli - Grease

Hahahah and my sister and brother were completely crazy about Racey. I remember back in 1979 how every radiostation was playing this song over and over again. It always reminds me of a fun time. Racey - Lay your love on me

This song doesn't give me memories of a specific event but just in general. FR Davids - Words

And Paradise City always make me go back to the time my ex bf and his friends were sitting in a bar and everybody was quiet and then this song started and everybody at the same time started to shake their head on the rhytm of the music  That was one of the funniest things I ever saw. Guns and Roses - Paradise City

YEAH! Back in highschool! I was such a 80's teen back then! I listened to the radio day and night and this song takes me back to the schooldays in 1986 when we talked about the latest tv shows and celebs etc. Ken Laszlo - Tonight

And this is not an old song but I played it a lot (like 50 times a day) and at that time I also discovered the Zelda world! Everytime I hear this song I think about my first Link Wallpaper I created and I always go back and search for the same wallpaper just to experience the feeling :D Rihanna - Don't stop the music

Ahh Paradise City is another one for me, though actually it's more the whole album than just the song in particular. My sister got Appetite for Destruction on vinyl when it came out and when she was at work I would play it constantly when she was at work or wherever. Come to think of it, right around that album's release is when vinyls started to become obsolete.

Heaven is a Place on Earth - Belinda Carlisle

This song was not current when I was in high school, but it reminds me of it because several of my friends like it. I also use to sing it during karaoke with my friends. That's more recent, but in a phase of life that's ended, so it just adds to the nostalgia.

We Go Together - Grease

At one of the dances I went to, there was a Grease Medley and the entire room started singing along. Now hearing most Grease songs take me back to that dance and how fun it was.

Hymn to the Sea - Titanic

I know, but this movie had its heyday when I was a teen. I even had a screensaver with shots from the film. This song sticks out because one of my friends at the time was a really sweet person who could cry at the drop of a hat. I didn't really believe it until I played the song and screensaver so they coordinated and she had tears streaking down her face a minute into it. Everyone teased me after that for making such a nice person cry.

His Cheeseburger - Veggie Tales

My friends loved Veggie Tales, and this was the one I most associated with that, because one of my other friends who didn't get the interest as much found herself inexplicably liking this song. Heh. For related reasons, Pirates Who Don't Do Anything is a close runner-up.

ETA: I just remembered one more...

Edelweiss - Sound of Music

When I was very young, I had a Sesame Street record player that came with this song. Heh. Also, my mom loves this movie, and it reminds me of her.

Really, any of the grungy 90's tunes always bring me back to the good ol' days. Brings back memories of big jeans, my Airwalk sneakers, and all my stupid friends :P Bush, Stone Temple Pilots, Nirvana, the Cranberries... I still have all these CDs, too, and they never fail to transport me back in time.

Sadly for me, most of the music that I find Nostalgic would be like the Spice Girls, the Backstreet Boys, and Britney Spears' original stuff. I say 'sadly' not because I hate the artists, but rather because I wish there were others that I had actually enjoyed at the time to have that feeling as well.
Actually, that's a lie. There are a couple of songs (rather than artists) that I find nostalgic, but what's funny is that most of them are from thee 2000s. Songs like Absolutely (Story of a Girl), All the Small Things, What's Up (okay, this one is 90s), If I had a Million Dollars, all bring me back to be younger years. haha

I have so many! I can only think of a few though, right now.

The theme song of my favorite childhood cartoon.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nzHKUzWQ7_s
Numa numa in Hungarian. I listened to it all the time with my friends in Hungary. Good memories. :) The song was actually done as a joke for a Hungarian comedy TV show, as you can see by the dudes dressed as girls. o_O
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20mHptZultk
I am actually in this video. The girl with the poofy hair sitting in the second row to the right is me. When it is zoomed in on the clarinet solo, it will be more clear. I can also hear myself on the clarinet solo, since I was the only one on first clarinet, meaning I played higher notes. It reminds me of the good old band last year, when my friend dyed her hair neon red. I was actually advanced, but my band teacher asked me to come and help the intermediates. So, I did. Then, I spent a joyful day in Great America. :)

The bell of my church in Hungary. Need I need to say more?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4RbxvE2IkE&feature=related
I heard this every single day for 10 years. It reminds me of my life in Kecskemét, before I moved to America. It was composed by the world famous Hungarian composer who was born in my city, Kecskemét.

When I was little, I didn't watch much t.v. or anything like that, but I do remember these:

Sailor Moon opening theme song, in German, and English. ;D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCC_-1gVE5Q <- German
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6_RZhh44NY <- English

Not many people liked Sailor Moon in my area, thought it was so dumb. But I was a kid and I enjoyed it. But now I don't watch it anymore

One Piece:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMTB-_4LAVQ

One Piece is the crack man, that is awesome stuff. I'd never met a person who didn't like the song OR the show.

Rave Master:

This show made me laugh numerous of times. The opening theme is kind of goofy, but its a fun show.

For starters, several Cake songs give me nostalgia. We used to listen to them in the car on long road trips.

Short Skirt Long Jacket by Cake

Love you Madly by Cake

And some other Cake songs I don't know the name of but could remember well.

Of course, The Pokemon Theme song
I hardly even remember the show, but I've had the words commited to memory for years.

Pokemon Johto Theme song
I hardly even remember this season either, but the song sure makes me smile and remember something.

Life is a Highway by John Cochrane
I'm not even sure why this is nostalgic, but it is.

And several Oracle of Ages songs are plenty nostalgic from when I first played the game when I was 7 or so.
Overworld
House
Lynna Village (present)
Maku Tree
Caves

Here are some others that might take you back: AIC, L7, Babes in Toyland, The Breeders, Letters to Cleo, Mudhoney, Pearl Jam, Jesus & Mary Chain. Those and the ones you mentioned were all big right around the prime of my teenage years.
