Nintendo Network Confirmed

If you're wondering what the Nintendo Network, it's an answer to XBOX Live and PSN. There were some early suspicions surrounding the name and this has shown them to be true. Indeed, there will be personal accounts for Wii U owners, downloadable content, and the possibility to download full retail games. This is a step in the direction of competitors, Microsoft and Sony, especially with a profile that is not system specific. The Nintendo Network will also be the new name to coin the 3DS's online capabilities, finally completely phasing out the old "Nintendo WiFi Connection". Everything is pointing towards a bright future for Nintendo's online.

Edit: Confirmed as rebranding of Nintendo Wi-Fi connection.

Nintendo is five years late with this feature, it will never be able to compete with PSN or XBL now

That's quite an ignorant statement. You don't know what will be on Nintendo Network. You won't know if it will flop. Just wait until it releases.

At this point I find it pretty ridiculous to even have such thoughts about a console we still don't know much about and haven't had hands on time with...

I think that Nintendo Network could easily beat PSN or XBL. As long as it is nowhere as unstable and laggy as PSN. It would also help if it would be cheaper than XBL. Also if it builds up an impressive downloadable game collection.

3DS has already proven Nintendo's commitment to downloadable games. Let's Golf 3D!, Pyramids, Mighty Switch Force, Pushmo, Samurai Sword Destiny, Zen Pinball 3D, and Mutant Mudds are already an impressive array! Plus features like Netflix and HuluPlus seem to be borderline guaranteed.

Microsoft and Sony are much more experienced in the online field then Nintendo. With a hugh amount of exclusive content for both online networks, that is developing for over 5 years, the big N is very late to join the race, and the amount of content in Nintendo Network will never be able to compete with PSN or XBL. It's just like the third party support, there is some, but you can't say it's better or even rivals of Sony and Microsoft. And knowing Nintendo we will have to pay for that feature. the only way they could stay competitive is to use the same strategy as Sony

But you don't know what Nintendo will do. They could make one of the worst online systems ever, or make a great one. It's all up to the future for this.

Awwww yeah, this is what I've been waiting for. Fast, epic online support. It better have leaderboards and stuff like that. The multiple profile thing sounds really amazing. If only the Wii U could come sooner...
