I haven't played it, not my cup of coffee, but after watching a few videos and comparing some notes with my chat group, the story is really good although a bit lacking at some points. The story gets a solid 7.9 from me. (For reference FFXIII got a 8 out of 10).

Oooooh i hated FF13. Really wanted to like it though but the battle gameplay was terrible i'd give Lightning an 8 though

Nier Automata really breaks loose on its 3rd, 4th and 5th playthroughs

Also, despite the aspects of the story that felt unfinished, I can honestly say it's still one of the best video game stories to ever exist.
