Rusl and Auru were best friends, and went around Hyrule doing good deeds. Once, they stopped in Ordon Village, where Rusl fell in love with Uli. He stayed to be with her as Auru went on. Fado's older brother and his wife were horse breeders that lived outside of Ordon. A few months after Rusl wed Uli, 2 rogues that Rusl and Auru had put behind bars escaped, and found out where Rusl was. They attacked Ordon, intending revenge on Rusl. They came from the Faron woods into Ordon Village one night. On the way in, they killed the horse breeders, failing to notice the infant in the cradle, and all the horses, except for one small foal, reckoning it would die soon enough. By this time, Rusl had been alerted and killed the villains, but blamed himself for the death of the horse breeders and raised their child as his own, teaching him swordplay as he grew. Link grew up alongside the other children, but being older than most of them, was always their envy, as he got to do things that they "were too young for." Rusl's son Colin sees Link as an older brother, while all the other kids know him well. When Link came of age, he wanted to move back to his parent's house. Rusl was reluctant, but eventually agreed. The children of Ordon loved to visit Link, as their childhood companion and often babysitter had his own house! He had been living on his own for a few months when Rusl decided to let Link deliver Ordon Village's gift to Hyrule Castle.
