Oops, yeah, we were talking about different quotes. Either way, he still doesn't say that OoT was first in the timeline before SS. Note that he says "sort of the oldest". And the last time he talked about a game being the earliest in the timeline, it wasn't OoT, it was FS. That was before TMC was made, of course. Also, although his words may hint at SS being the earliest game at the moment, he doesn't come out and confirm it. All that he really confirmed was that SS predates OoT. So it could be first, making the timeline be SS-TMC-FS/FSA-OoT, or it could be immediately before OoT, resulting in TMC-FS/FSA-SS-OoT. I think the placement will become more clear once the game's released.

"Sort of" in "Sort of the oldest story" is negligible because last time he told the media about OoT as the oldest story, FS (and TMC) were not around. "Sort of" is not meant to be a loophole for other games. The fact he refers to OoT and not FS, in terms of oldest stories, is quite telling; it's implying OoT was the last time a game in the series was the oldest story or he wouldn't have brought up OoT and instead brought up FS (or rather, the entire Four Swords trilogy). This quote makes no sense if OoT wasn't the last time a story was the oldest story in the Zelda timeline because it would be absolutely pointless to bring up if there's even older games than OoT now besides SS.

When you consider that GameInformer was the only site to report FS being the earliest tale, there's a chance it might not be true. For every other quote, we have an alternate quote to back it up, but that quote is the only one without a corresponding Japanese quote, which is strange. It wouldn't be the first time we've ended up with a mistranslated quote about the FS series (for instance, the rumor about the DS getting a FS game when Aonuma actually said that the FSA team was working on a game for the DS).
