There is a difference between mobile games and non-mobile games, but in the same sense that there’s a difference between console games and handheld games. Obviously theres gonna be a dip in quality on a technical level, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that the games are worse than AAA console titles.

That being said, I do think that theres some real divide between mobile gamers and console/pc gamers. The fact of the matter is that with a few exceptions, mobile games are specifically tailored to be less intricately designed experiences, and thats fine. Console titles simply don’t work on mobile. How many times have you seen Capcom or Sega try to port Mega Man or Sonic to mobile only for it to suck? I mean sure there are a few exceptions, the first three Layton games are on mobile and are easily the definitive versions that you should all go download right now and play to support Level-5 and their best series but those are few and far between. The best games are always the ones that are tailored to the system they’re on, and that means that the best mobile games are always going to be those junk food, pick up and play type games. This doesnt mean that anyone who plays one over the other is less of a gamer, just someone who prefers a specific breed of gaming to another.

Agreed.

All I was saying with so many mobile games that have incredibly deceptive advertisements that are nothing like the game they're advertising, I feel the mobile game market really needs quality control.

I'm all for people making profit, I just don't think you have to lie about what you're selling, ya know? :)

I used to be pretty extreme against it, but I mellowed out over the years and actually found some pretty decent games on the system.
I still hate the f2p bull**** and all of that and I would never play a "console" game on it that requires a controller, but some games like Ridiculous fishing make pretty good use of the phone gimmicks and offer a pretty good time.

Mobile games tend to be pretty shallow, but I think they're good for a quick session. The one I find myself playing most often, probably once every 2 or 3 months, is Mario Kart Tour, because despite the limited gameplay, there is good character and track variety. Fraxinus comparing them to arcade games in simplicity is definitely a sentiment I can agree with. Except all the microtransactions are BS. They're simple games but still games.

I skimmed this thread, but this is my area of expertise. I come from the early 2010s, the golden age of mobile games. Angry Birds (and the og spinoffs, Space, Seasons, Star Wars, the good ones), Fruit Ninja, Hill Climb Racing, Temple Run, Minecraft Pocket Edition, Clash of Clans (Although I was more partial to Boom Beach) and others I'm doubtlessly forgetting, those were my childhood games, and tbh I think I still kinda have this mindset that mobile game are for kids and consoles are more for older kids/teens/adults. Heck, I've got Angry Birds on my phone rn. As for the question in the OP. Technically yes, but the way things are, no. Sure, you're a gamer if you play video games, even mobile games, but I think the term gamer is more applied to people who have it as more of a hobby than just a pastime if that makes sense. By hobby I mean something that you're like, actively spending time and money on, and mobile games aren't really something you set aside time for, but rather more of a quick time killer like Frax was saying. But anyway, in a technical grammatical sense, yes, people who only play mobile games are gamers but in a cultural sense, no they are not. I know I didn't consider myself a gamer when I was a kid/tween.

I like gambling!
Online gambling has been popular way for people to enjoy casino games and other forms of betting from comfort of their own homes. Traditional online gambling and crypto gambling differ in many ways, including the use of cryptocurrencies as payment method. One of the significant benefits of using cryptocurrencies in the gambling industry is the possibility of increased transparency and fairness. The blockchain technology used in most cryptocurrencies offers an immutable and transparent record of all transactions, allowing online gambling operators to provide more reliable and fair gambling for players. This increased transparency also offers players greater trust in the gambling platform. To learn more about the benefits of cryptocurrency gambling, check out this article on golfnews.co.uk.

Mobile gamers are still gamers. If you play games, you are a gamer. Yes, people who play board games are also gamers.

There are actually some pretty good games on mobile phones these days, like Part-time UFO (also on Switch) and Haunt the House (also on PC), both of which I highly recommend. They're pick-up-and play titles, but they've got a lot of polish and are a good time overall.
Heck, there are even full-on old console games on mobile platforms these days-- Castlevania: Symphony of the Night recently got ported to mobile, and I hear it's pretty dang good conversion. The biggest problem with any console port is having to use touch screen controls, but I hear some games have compatibility with bluetooth controllers.

Now, it's true that with freemium games, the quality can be hit or miss-- ranging all the way from "perfectly passable" to "meh", all the way down to "this game has so many deceptive ads and dark patterns that it isn't even funny". People who are prone to addiction shouldn't play freemium games, and there really should be more quality control on the app stores. Really, though, console and gaming have their fair share of shovelware and bad games with deceptive advertisements, too-- lest we forget the likes of Superman 64, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5, Balan Wonderworld, Big Rigs, roughly 60% of Steam Greenlight, or Bubsy 3D. Boy howdy, I wish I could forget Bubsy 3D. And you had to pay money up front for most of those.

So, yeah, mobile gaming's pretty ok. I feel bad for the people who get tricked into spending money by dark patterns, though.

I just enjoy how Nintendo has no further plans for releasing a new Mario on the app store and hope that they don't release a mario for android phones too. But I have to give some credits to mobile games since its a market and people working there can be talented. My experience playing mobile games was that I met a lot of people that weren't really gamers, didn't want others to know they were gaming and we shared a same characteristic about a problematic behavior in socializing that would be later exploited with loot boxes or microtransactions in general.
I moreso meant that lootboxes and pseudo-gambling are common enough among console games. Stuff like the original release of EA's Star Wars Battlefront 2, the FIFA games, and Genshin Impact.
