That......just never happens. MD has always been filled with bait threads, users flaming eachother, and stubbornness. That's the nature of the internet when it comes to topics covered in the MD.

Which I thought was the point of the increased level of moderation. It's supposed to be heavily moderated to deter that sort of stuff.

Well, the threads are either political, religious, or sexual in nature. So technically, they actually do belong in the MD. However, it's apparent to the users here that Spyro is a troll, so we not only don't take him seriously, but join in because it's fun. It's also apparent to the staff, cause they shut down some of his threads. However, none of his actions warrant a temper tantrum. Having one like Beauts did, does three things:

1. Plays right into the trolls hands
2. Makes a mountain of a mole-hill
3. Makes oneself look; well, immature. How can one complain of immaturity after actions like that?

All in all, she's obviously right. Of course those threads don't belong there, cause they're troll threads.

If he is indeed a troll, and everyone including the moderators know it. Why isn't he banned(or given infractions)? Trolling is strictly against ZD's rules.

"Trolling or Baiting: Trolling and baiting describe actions which attempt to elicit negative - often humorous, emotional, or inappropriate - responses from others, and will not be tolerated. This includes mocking, antagonizing, harassing, or otherwise targeting the nerves of another member or group."

Since this is in the suggestions thread now I have a suggestion.

I think it would solve a lot of problems if we had a "mature" section that was split between 18+ discussions of any nature and "serious" discussion in addition to our life advice sub-forum. Could we give it a try and see if that works? Personally I know I would love to be able to have a mature "serious" discussion but also have a light-hearted 18+ discussion on the site I've come to know and love. I'm sure others would feel the same.

That's an interesting suggestion, I'll discuss it with other staff. Obviously a more light-hearted 18+ section would still have some specific rules (like no porn obviously) but could work, does anyone else have anything to say regarding this suggestion?

As for the specific situation that has been discussed, I have now dealt with it and we will not be seeing these threads continuing in the Mature Discussion section from now on.

I would also like to point out that I have trashed and cut out a lot of unnecessary things from this thread. Firstly, please don't bait people even if you feel they are over-reacting to something as this will just escalate the situation further. Please don't swear at other users or flame them, use the report button if you feel attacked. Also don't make public threats to dob someone in to a staff member, this doesn't help the situation at all.

@Beauts' suggestions when making this thread were clearly legitimately valid and while the tone within some posts may have been a bit too much others were not being very respectful toward her suggestion either, making it unsurprising that this thread turned quite sour and began to veer into unnecessary argument. Please try to have a little more respect for each other guys.

I personally like the section of a 18+ section for lighthearted discussion and stupidity as what occurs when it's late night SB time with me about, BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT
a big but as you can see is how do we police said section? or stop under 18's from accessing it? We could link it to accounts or whatever but it's not hard to change date of birth here

I like Moonstones suggestion about the two sections. There are things we can't really discuss in the general discussion because the topic is of an adult nature but might not be a serious discussion and is currently unsuitable for the Mature discussion section as it currently is.

They don't need to be stopped. Right now topics are discussed that parents wouldn't like their kids looking at. This section would advise that the content found within can be of an adult nature and users enter at their own risk. It is not like there will be porn there.

EDIT: Merged Double Posts

Someone's ability to carry himself maturely during discussions that call for it is not necessarily age-related. It plays a factor, but I don't think a more intense sectionof the MD would call for age restriction. A no-bull**** policy would probably be enough. Furthermore, instead of adding a separate section, what do you think of the idea of utilizing thread prefixes for the MD to differentiate between some more casual discussion about political and other "mature" matters, versus more seriously overtoned threads about ethics, etc.?

Agreed on the first part. We don't need to stop younger people from using the section. But I don't think prefixes are a good way to separate them. Thread titles would do the same job as prefixes most of the time, I think different sections would be the way to go if you wanted to achieve Moonstone's suggestion.

However, I don't actually think there's a problem with the MD right now as is. Maybe I'm in the minority.

I agree that MD needs to have some changes but I really like the prefix idea. The ability to prefix a thread as "serious" to request only serious replies and "light-hearted" to allow joking around sounds wonderful to me.

Call me biased, but an age restriction would really suck. People below 18 have contributed good discussion to MD threads

I do not think more forum sections really is the answer here. The MD was never a space for joking, which have always been against the rules. Spam posts are not really accepted in most sections of the forum and we have a space specifically for spamming. Doing it elsewhere should just result in trashing of the post.

The problem, is that there are no places for joking using Mature content.

I gotta agree here, i know we have the serious area for Mature content and all but theres no place to kick back and make dirty jokes or anything, granted we do have the SB but to many younger people come here and some people like me feel uncomfortable making silly jokes or comments around them.

Lorule Lounge is that place, Shiro.

I've noticed many people feel that the LL's role is largely undefined.
