Majora’s Origins / Ikana Theory
First off, I think the mask was created in Ikana thousands of years prior to the events of Majora’s mask. During the war between the Garo and people of Ikana the mask was created. In the war I think the Garo were near defeat in the war so they sealed the most evil thing in the world (the devil) into a mask to defeat the people of Ikana. I believe that Majora lived in the Stone Tower and that he was worshiped there but was sealed into the mask using a song of some sorts. They cursed the people to kill them but keep them alive at the same time, hence why it’s full of gibdo, redeads and also why the king of Ikana and his servants are skeletons. Also the Garo are not undead, so they weren’t cursed by the mask. In my opinion the well is full of Gibdo’s because the Garo used to use the well to get into Ikana Castle and now the people of Ikana are guarding/looking for the Garo in the well. After cursing the people of Ikana I think the Garo took the mask to Hyrule and sealed it in the shadow temple, because the happy mask salesman said they sealed the mask in shadow/darkness and the shadow temple is shadow. When link was still a child in Ocarina of time I think the happy mask salesman went into the Shadow temple and found the mask then once Ganon started to gain power he left for Termina, when passing through the lost woods a skull kid follows him into Termina and steals the mask. Now, I think that Majora is the devil because in the game the composer brother sharp apparently makes a deal with the devil, which is majora, therefore sealing his brother flat away and cursing him. I don’t think that Termina is a different universe or a dream of links or anything, I think it’s a different country on the same earth as Hyrule and that the sequence where link falls into Termina with all the trippy stuff happening is actually the curse and link is going through the curse wall if that makes any sense. Anyways, that’s my theory, I personally think they should make a game explaining where the mask came from and Ikana’s story, let me know what you think.

Wasn't there already a thread with a YouTube link to a video explaining this same theory?

Anyway, two things bother me about this theory. First, Termina is not a country in the same world as Hyrule. Nintendo have been very clear about Termina being a parallel universe.
Second, the theory sounds like it could be true but there's no evidence to support it. If you could find some solid evidence from in-game or developer interviews or the like, then it would lend a lot more credibility to this theory.

I think that Termina IS a country near Hyrule. Well, relatively near Hyrule. Like, the United States to Brazil. The whole parallel dimension thing just don't make any sense to me. And I do agree; they should explain the orgins of Ikana Kingdom and Majoras mask. But then what would we talk about? As far as Majora being the devil? Doubtful, more like sun-god who's a female.

Probably not, as Majoras origins seem pretty clear, as the Happy Mask Salesman states an ancient tribe used dark rituals with the mask, the mask is most likely an ancient evil sealed in it, while its not specified wich sealing war its invloved in its pretty its ovious that it did not take place in an alternate dimension.

Seriously, there's already an stigma with it in this community, it has been confirmed by HH, MM's manual and it's pretty obvious to anyone who has played OoT and MM, now can we move on to discussing the actual theory.

I think the theory is far too speculative to be considered, there's no evidence in-game to support it, though It'd make a good fanfic

Good theory. My theory is, a long time ago before time started, there was a land that was pretty barren. In that land was a monster wearing amor named Majora, and whoever wears Majoras armor will have his wishes granted. One day a hero came along and defeated Majora. Then, he took his sword and carved a mask from Majoras armor, named Majoras mask.
The power in the armor, is also the power in the mask.

Isn't that just the origin of the Mask as told by the non-canon manga?

Maybe, but I believe it. And its my theory.
And time started when Majora was defeated.

Actually, not a theory, but speculation, when you talk about theory formally, you are talking about evidence and facts, the rest is hypothesis (needs confirmation) or speculation (impossible to confrm)
