Seventeen Years Later...
The Deku Tree's mossThe had grown darker around his brows, and the Kokiri as ever remained childlike. All save one, who was now being called by a girl with hair as green as ivy,
"Link! We need some help!"
A tall young man, well tall by the standards of the Kokiri, came running in his evergreen tunic, his long flowing blond hair sparkling when the sun broke through the branches of the trees. Link came upon a scene in which one of the Boys was tangled in a vine upside down, hanging from a oak. The Hero scaled the tree in one leap, and climbed up to where the Boy hung,
"No! It will break! Stay away you freak!"
Link reached out with his hand, and took knife and cut the vine, the boy screamed, "Aaaah! You idiot!" Link grabbing another vine leapt into the air, sparks of the sprites flowed around him as he closed the distance to the lad, and with one sweeping motion of his body he caught the fussing Kokiri, and tugged on the vine just before they hit the ground, their leather brown boots alone touching it as he released the rope of greenery. The Boy shouted, "I could have gotten hurt! You big idiot!"
Sarai taking a large leaf like lotus smacked the Boy in the face, who said, "Hey! Sarai! What was that for?!"
She gave the Boy a stern look, "Say thank you to Link! He got you out of that tree!" The Kokiri sighed, and said to The Hero,
"Thanks, I guess.."
Link merely smiled back, nothing that the Lost Boys said bothered him. He knew early on that he was out of place, growing taller than all of them.
"Do not mention it Oliver. Sarai, if you have no more need of me, I must see The Deku."
Sarai approached him and he did his obligatory bow, and she kissed his cheek.
"As always you do without any thought for yourself Link, see you later."
The Hero made his way in dense forest to a clearing crown in trees, with one Great One in the middle who had mossy mustache and hollowed out eyes, his mouth moving.
"Link.. at last you have come of age and the time has come to tell you what you need to know."
Before The Deku was a circle of boulders, placed there by the Kokiri to sit on. Link took a seat and poised his pointed ears. When the Deku had something to say, he made sure to pay close attention, he had become a surrogate father to the Blond Young Man.
Deku continued,
"As you has suspected for some years now, you are not a Kokiri, at least not by blood. I do consider you one my sons, adopted into our Tree, and never forget that a place will always be here for you and as long as my roots grow deep, I will be your Father."
Link nodded.
The Great Deku went on,
"The time has come to tell you the truth. Listen well, for it is a long tale. Seventeen years anon, you came upon our realm by the behest of your mother who was fleeing the Dark Lord of the Desert. Her name was Rava, and she had come to me prior to her calamity, when she was rent asunder from you as a babe. I promised if need came, I would hide you among out children. You may ask why must you be hidden? The truth Link is that you are the rightful heir to the Gerudo Throne, you are the Son of One Hundred Years that the women of your tribe await. The Dark Lord Ganondorf in his sorcery usurped your place, taking control of Nabooris, a machine of ancient power, and took what should have been yours. More than that he seperated you from your parents. Your Mother, Rava, yes that was her name, was Gerudo, alas like all of her people she had to seek a life mate outside the Gerudo, and it was your Father, Chaine, a Hylian Knight, whom she loved and by who's seed you came into this world. You are thus a Son of Two Peoples, The Desert and The Hylian. However, there is more.. that I cannot tell you, that you must learn from The Desert about who you truly are. Know this my Son, that if you embark on the road before you, there will be great upheavel, already the Darkness is spreading and to take your place you will have to confront it directly.. I cannot prepare you anymore than I have these seventeen years. You must seek training from your two homes, though one is harsh and there lurks your foe..."
Link took a deep breath, there was so much to mull over and yet when he looked up to The Great Deku he said,
"You will always be my Father. No matter where adventure takes me, you are Tree of my Life, and I will never forget you or my brothers and sisters."
The Great Deku shed a tear of sap, and said,
"Link.. your heart, its purity, will lead you towards the right path. May Farore hearten you, and may you find the Wisdom of Nayru, and the strength to wrestle with Din when the time comes."
Link when to the trunk of The Great Deku, and held her arms around the bark in an embrace, as tears fell from his own eyes, the sap fell upon his forehead like annointing oil. He took it and smeared his forehead in the shape of Spirit Stone of the Kokiri.
The Knight Errant made his way to his little house in an oak in the center of Kokiri Village, he gathered a sack and began to pack. When he heard the voice of Sarai,
"So its true, you are leaving.."
Link turned and looked at the glum girl, she was always full of cheer and it pained him that she was now sorrowful.
"Yes.. though I shall return, I promise.."
Sarai interrupted,
"Do not make a promise, when you are not sure if you can keep it.. I want you to take this."
She handed him a smooth yellow ocarina, with a green painted holes. Link held it in his hands and then looked at her and said,
"Such a precious gift.. I do not know what to say."
Sarai forced a laugh,
"That is normal for you, the quiet one. I use to think it was because you were insecure, now I know its you choose your words carefully and when you do speak, it has more gravity, like that which pulls the leaves from our blessed trees."
Sarai then stepped up on a root like bed leg and kissed Link's cheek as he instinctively knelt a little. This was goodbye. From there The Hero made his way to threshold of Kokiri Forest, ready to brave the Wild. Sarai began to wave, as did some of the Kokiri, Oliver crossed his arms and said, "good riddance! hmpf!"
Link looked back at them, and felt his eyes well up, when he heard a voice,
"Do not look back my Son, your path lay before you..."
With that Link taking a walking stick of finest Deku Wood began his trek into The Wild...
