Please forgive me if this has already been made by someone else.
Alright, this is hopefully the first of a thread series about different Zelda games and how good they were, looking back on them now. Obviously, this is totally my opinion, and please post your thoughts in the comments.
The first Zelda I''m going to write about is Twilight Princess. With the release of the Wind Waker, many Zelda fans were disappointed that there wasn't a realistic Zelda released. After seeing the tech demo at Spaceworld 2000, some of the fans felt betrayed when Nintendo didn't create a realistic Zelda like in the video.
Well, Twilight Princess was supposed to be the answer for that. It was originally going to be a Gamecube game only, but was then delayed further to make it release late enough to be a launch title for the console Miyamoto designed, the Wii. It was changed to fit the Wii's focus on motion controls, and released on December 2, 2006, with a Gamecube release 9 days later.
What do I think of Twilight Princess? I honestly think it was the worst Zelda in the series, not counting the CD-i games. The motion controls were more than a little clunky, and I felt that if you were going to have the motion controlled by swinging the Wiimote, you could have made it a little more realistic, like, swing in the direction you want to swing, and Link could at least swing in the same direction. The difficulty curve is also something I hated. The game is easy enough through the first portion of it. But once you get the Iron Boots, the difficulty ramps up. I died at LEAST 12 times just trying to get rid of King Bulblin. And what's worse, the difficulty goes DOWN after finally defeating King Bulblin the first time. I mean, if you are going to make something difficult for fans, why only make that and other choice parts at AoL level? I had no problem getting through the rest of the game, until I had to guide the carriage back to Kakaricko. In fact, I am STILL stuck on that part, and it is the sole reason why I don't play Twilight Princess so much.
But TP wasn't ALL bad. The hunting around for secrets and hidden skills were fun and made the game much more enjoyable, and I actually LIKED being Wolf Link, as it added to the game a lot more depth. I also liked the twilight and the Tears of Light, which were quite fun (at least for me), and I was both surprised and happy when I found out that those mechanics were making a return in Skyward Sword. TP had a vast world, and I had a ball of a time exploring it. Nintendo had so much potential with TP, it almost makes me cry. Almost all of the problems I've seen with it could be fixed with the Wii MotionPlus.
So, with that said, I give TP a rating of Navi: annoying and a leave it, at least for me. But TP had so much potential, it would feel like a huge missed opportunity if Nintendo didn't create a remake for the Wii U. Feel free to post how you feel about TP in the comments, and if this thread hits the 5th page, I'll do a love it or leave it review of the next Zelda on my list, AoL.
