Ok everyone thinks Link cant talk but until a cay ago I thought that to. So i was playing OOT when I was talking to Princess Ruto to get the SPiritual stone of water after the 3rd temple when she says what would you like as a gift or something and then it gives you 2 things to say: i would like the spiritual stone or I dont want anything. These choices are what Link says so Link says things just not often

Of course link can talk, they just don't have voice actors that talk for the characters, and mostly link dosen't talk because everyone is a long talker and link never get's to talk.:nerd: (just kidding)

Don't forget the convienent "blackout screens" when he's talking to the villagers in TP regarding the safety of the children. He's obviously telling them what's going on, we just are not allowed to see what he says - since he's supposed to be the proxy for our own emotions as we play.

Also, in Wind Waker - "Over here!" and "Come on!" with full voice acting. :)

I suppose that could work. I do wish he would actually say something though! I guess it does add to his charm though, that he is the strong, silent type!

Yeah, and in addition to that if you pay attention to the dialogue, you can see Link is talking in most of the Zelda games, you just never see what he says.

Wind Waker cheats and thus does not count. :P

I had made a rather lengthy post about this a while ago, but I suppose it was lost in the hacking of the forums. Oh well.

HERE ARE SOME EXAMPLES of when Link talks. There are other times as well, but I don't feel like reposting what I had before. Link actually talks quite often... it's just a matter of paying attention.

Yeah. Link talks sometimes. We simply... don't hear him or either the scene is cut, like in TP when you talk to villagers in Ordon about the children. The whole purpose is for us to feel like we are the hero, Link. :)

Don't forget "I found a mirror under the table," in AoL. He also might've said "The door will not open. Its very quiet," to himself, but it could have been a narration as well.

Yeah, I looked for the original thread as well, but it seems to be gone now which is too bad. The general consensus of that thread was that Link talks, just we never hear it. There's many times people he meets ask him things, and you get to choose your reply. Link must be saying these replies to the people or else how would they know to continue with what they have to say?

I would say the most common example is when someone rattles off a big explanation, followed with something to the effect of "Did you understand all that?" to which you can reply "Yes" or "Umm... Not really". Link must be giving one of these replies to have the person either continue their speech, or to have them repeat it.

Maybe it's just me, but this link doesn't send me to a page with anything on it other than a heared, a naviagation and an ad. It says "Done, With Errors". And I don't think it's referring to Error of Aol. ;)

One more here: In Twilight Princess, while Link is escorting the sick Zora kid to Kakariko Village, Telma asks Link his name and gets an answer.

I've always thought he was capable of vocalizing, but only chose to when the situation really demanded it. There are instances in Zelda where all of us would probably choose to use words, and Link settles for a nod or some such.

Well yeah, you can pick choices for link to say. It's just that people don't have voices
saying the words. Link may grunt when he fights, or screams when he is being chased.
He just doesn't say words. Now that I think about it, none of the other characters talk in words either. You just read them off the screen. I think it would be cool if the characters said words vocally. I wouldn't have to strain my eyes to read the words.

He doesn't talk, his Triforce of Courage has its own super power: Telepathy. :keese:

:well: He talks in PH when you talk into the mic. He actually talks, with a talk bubble and everything.

What about the CD-i games he talks all the time in them. :)

Anyway this is from Wikipedia:

"Link does not usually speak, and only produces grunts, yells or similar sounds. One exception is The Wind Waker in which he says "Come on!" to make people or objects follow him. When Link is asked questions, the player answers by choosing options from a list; Link usually does not give any aural or visual indication that he has answered, however he sometimes nods his head in The Wind Waker. Link does speak in the cartoon series and the CD-i games produced by Philips, though these are not canon materials in the series. However, he does "speak" two lines in The Adventure of Link; when he locates a mirror under a table, the text, "I found a mirror under the table" appears on screen, and later on, if he examines a fireplace that he can enter, "Looks like I can get in the fireplace" is displayed."
