Some, they're mostly self contained but there'll be like a guy from 2 or Whisper will go like "[yw2 event reference]". Like I guess someone could just play YW3 and not be lost but I think playing all three is better but I'm a nerd.
2 and 1 are VERY short compared to 3 so they're easy to blast through just for the story too. People definitely play Yo-kai Watch just for its totally deep mature compelling narrative.
