Is Medli and Marin The Same?

Medli is red headed Rito (bird human), Marin is red head that becomes a seagull.

The Titles of the games both are in have awaking in them:

Windwaker

Link’s Awakening

Both games Medli and Marin are in feature wind prominently as in the Wind Waker Baton and The Wind Fish.

So the question is, is Medli and Marin the same? Medli being the real world Marin perhaps? Or just Nintendo using similiarities?

I like this theory; however, a better candidate for a Marin incarnation exists in Wind Waker: Aryll.

Zelda wiki: "In the character design notes for Aryll inside the Zelda Box's book, Eiji Aonuma says that Aryll (アリル, Ariru) was originally going to be named Mariru (マリル) to be similar to Marin (マリン) from Link's Awakening and Malon (マロン, Maron) from Ocarina of Time.[14] As such, certain similarities between Aryll and Marin can be noted, such as their affinity for Seagulls, and the red hibiscus in Marin's hair that appears on a pattern on Aryll's dress."

I forgot to mention Meldi and Marin both have harps they play too.

That’s interesting. Nintendo reusing properties for sure.

maybe you can say Medli's loosely inspired by Marin but there's zero in-universe connection otherwise

I think the names of both characters have clues to who they are. Medli sounds like "Melody", who reminds me of The Little Mermaid 2 main character who wants to go down into the sea, but Medli wants to go up. And it's music related like the wind waker.

Marin sounds like "mariner," someone who attends to a ship. Link sailed a long way to Dragon Roost Island, and Medli is also the dragon's attendant.
