If You Could Pick One Element to Bend, Which One Would You Pick? (Avatar/Korra)

So, I've seen a lot of people that are into Korra on these forums lately. The bending in the series has always fascinated me and I've often wondered how awesome it would be to be able to do this myself. So, my question is, if you could be a bender, which element would you bend and why? You can also pick one specialised bending technique to go with your element.

- Seismic Sense

Fire
- Lightning Bending
- Combustion
- Lightning Redirection

Air
- Flight
- Spiritual Projection

Seeing as flight has only been achieved by two airbenders you should take that off the list. As is I'd like Fire/Earthbending them seem the most useful in combat.

True, but so far known only two benders were capable of combustion, so that should be taken of then as well. But that's not the point . It's about what you think is the most usefull/cool/awesome sub skill.

Each of the elements represents something.

Fire = Passion/Rage
Earth = Stubbornness /Solidity
Water = Versatility
Air = Adaptability/

I recall there being a thread like this when the first season of Korra aired, and I believe I choose Earth. With metal, and now, lava bending being subsets of earth bending, I'm tempted to go with that again, but the power of flight is just too good to pass up on. Zaheer was an average airbender, at best, before unlocking the ability; afterwards, he was able to almost take down Korra, albeit in a weakened a state. If I were to live in the bending world, however, the power wouldn't be so much a drive for me, as the knowledge that I'd become a true airbending master and the convenience to fly wherever with just my body.

I say Fire mostly because, and I know everyone's gonna look at me like a crazy person when I say this, it's very much a self-defense element, but very good for offense, too. Think about it: with Water and Earth, you need the elements to be around to bend them. What if they're not around? What if someone attacks you then? You can't really do anything but fight the old-fashioned way (or a more ideal choice imo, run). That leaves Fire and Air. You can burn someone pretty badly with fire. Air, however, you can slap them around a little, I guess (unless you're like Zaheer and you can take people's breath away... literally), but that will, at the most, leave them dazed with a couple of bruises.

So, to sum up, Fire is powerful and you can use it anywhere. That's why I picked it.

I kinda agree with you. I'd pick Earth myself, but in the series I find water to be the most OP element, at least when it's available. The biggest weakness offcourse is the fact that it's not always around, even though Master Benders like Katara can filter the water from thin air and living things such as plants and flowers. But with the Healing and especially Bloodbending, I think it's the strongest element in the series.

Don't watch Korra, so screw spiritbending with Waterbending (too OP anyway, imo). I'd take it because come on. Who doesn't want to bend ice and snow, which I personally feel like reflect me. Plus waterbending would be so much fun to troll with people at pools or beaches or lakes.

My favorite is water. But as many others have said, it has a huge downside. So, if I had a choice of which I could bend, it would be earth, with the subset of seismic sensing.

Earth bending all the way. And metal bending is just the best. Literally the only thing can keep an earth bender contained is wood, and wood is certainly the weakest substance to break through. Sure, you can get trapped by it, but with enough effort it'll break. Besides, with metal bending you can make the best art so easily.
