How Internets-Famous Are You?

Shadsie

Sage of Tales
Lately, I've been finding I have a weird amount of fame for a no-life netizen.

Not long ago, for instance, someone with whom I was PMing called me a "celebrity," in a way... not a real one, but we were talking about the nature of fanfiction.net and the accounts of people who have died. (Morbid topic, I know), and I said something about wondering if anyone would even notice me gone if I vanished - stopped writing fic, stopped leaving reviews and left a dead-account, or, if something happened to me and my dear ArkNorth announced it. The person I was PMing with said that she expected that a lot of people would feel really weird about that because I'm a "celebrity" on the site in some of the Nintendo fandoms. (Zelda, Smash Bros. and Kid Icarus).

And just today, I made a comment on an article over on Cracked.com - "Public Apologies We Do Not Have to Accept" ... something like that. The article writer used Eji Aonuma's apology for the Water Temple in Ocarina of Time as one of those apologies he does not accept and a thing he does not forgive, because the Water Temple ruined his childhood or something. (It's all exaggerated Cracked stuff). I made some comment along the lines of "But completing the Water Temple makes you feel like a true hero!" - and someone responded with me "Do you happen to be the Shadsie who writes Zelda fanfic, because if so, you are awesome."

I was floored. - It's like, okay, Cracked.com.... I did not expect anyone who goes there to know me, especially given how the site has traditionally treated the subject of fan fiction.

I also, out of curiosity, once did a Google search of my penname and "fanfic recommendations" because I was curious as to where some of the influx of reviews and favorites I was getting on a number of my stories was coming from and found, that even though I do not have an account on Tumblr, Legend of Zelda fans recommend my stories there.

It's all just kind of weird, getting a degree of "fame" for no-life nerd activities.

So, how about all y'all? Have you found yourself more Internets-famous than you've realized recently?

I'm happy that you're getting recognition!!! Good for you! ^^

I'm not Internet famous though. I mean, no one can even see me. I'm a Ghost. :boo:

Well, unless you count being on Z-Talk before getting a forum account here, then not really no. But congrats for you, that sounds like a lot of fun!

Well, there's a couple of technical sites where people seem to appreciate my input, but I'm not sure I would call being appreciated by a few nobodies being popular,

Beyond that (and getting retweets from a few famous peoples), I would say that I'm basically ignored.

@Clank you are a fool. You do realize that being appreciated by nobodies is what makes celebrities celebrities? You are simply being a fool here.

Anyway, I'm as popular as the tag of "Chocolate Storm", as the tag of "VanitasXII", and as the tag of "Ventus". I am a legend. Not really. ATM I have IX subscribers! I'm so popular. https://www.youtube.com/user/ChocolateStormVan

But beyond that, I would say that I am a ZD Legend. Because, as you all know, the Storm has arrived.

Well, there was a time where I had a nice bit of attention within the Gilmore Girls fandom some years back. I wrote a lot of fanfiction and had a nice bunch of dedicated readers who would leave me epic page-long reviews for every chapter I posted. There even was a time where one of my readers came running up to me at a convention we were both attending, wanting to talk about my fic.

I've also had a couple of old web based online games that I used to play. One where I personally didn't think I had done all that well in (but that a guy I had been chatting with got awestruck with me because he apparently had thought I was really, really good), and another where I had done a couple of month-long stint of being the strongest player in the game.

Internet-fame is a strange phenomenon, though. Because we're known and unknown, somebody and nobody at the same time. I've been a fan and had fans, been fan of someone who in turn was fan of me. I've been decently known in one fandom, and merely a blip on the radar screen in another. It's all a strange ball of wibbly-wobbly inter-websy stuff.

I'm a popular member on several forums and have mod status on a few, though I never mod so blech. Other than that I'm a massive pornstar so I'm pretty freaking famous.

The thread title says "famous", not "infamous".

The two are not actually mutually exclusive. Famous doesn't require you to be well known for good reasons. While the "in" prefix does imply that it is opposite it does not always work that way. For example, if you are valuable that is good, but being invaluable is also good. #themoreyouknow

well not too much. I'm kind of known on ZD for being a sweet, nice, and caring person. But that's about it really. Although one day, I'd like to be well known over the internet for kindness and great advice. Maybe then, people would follow my good example and be nicer to other people in their daily lives. This world needs kinder people after all.
