How Does Link Get Off of Skyloft and Survive?

Just like in every Zelda game, when you jump off a high place you press A last second, Link does a roll, and you take no damage.

perhaps the girl is in hyrule, and uses the Skyward sword to communicate with Link once he gets it. then she could tell him that he needs to come to land to do something, which will in turn, cause him to need to return to Skyloft, and so on

In many of the previous Zelda titles when Link falls from a great height if you roll you won't get hurt so I bet that he just rolls when he hits the ground.>.>

I think it's really simple. Link must have a way of teleporting like the skyward sword or a plattform. Also, a bird may just fly him down.
