How do I beat Dark Link in Ocarina of Time?

Hey, gamers. I got back to playing Ocarina of Time again, which I apparently hadn't touched since December of 2023. I was kinda lost in the Water Temple, but thanks to ZeldaDungeon's guide, I was able to make it all the way to the Dark Link fight. I am now stuck on the Dark Link fight.

I don't have Din's Fire or the Biggoron Sword, and the Megaton Hammer just isn't working for some reason (I've seen it demolish him in videos, so I'm a bit confused). I understand there's some kind of pattern but it's not obvious to me and I'm very impatient. If anyone has any tips or deeper explanations, I'd be most grateful! I'm kinda starting to see results by just wildly slashing at him but that's hurting my hand a lot so I'd like to not have to do that, lol.

Whenever he leaps onto your sword trying to attack you, try to escape his grip with circular motions on the pad and pressing B. It's not always clear that you will receive a hit as far as I remember.

He's actually pretty easy to beat but you have to figure out his moves. Like Dizzy said don't z-target him. Because then he's going to block your attacks. Use either hamer or sword and stay in front of him holding your shield up. Just slash/slam him once or twice and hold your shield back up. Then do the slash/slam thing again for a short while and shield back up again. Repeat this till he's defeated. Actually you can defeat him faster but then you might get damaged faster too

The most important thing is to not Z-Target and NEVER thrust (forward + - he will always counterattack this, and I think spin attacks as well. The best strategy with just the master sword is to spam neutral B, turning around very quickly whenever he gets hit. You might have to tank a few hits this way but you'll be able to out damage for sure.

Just keep in mind that his health bar is tied to yours as he's your literal reflection, so the more health you have the more hits he'll take.

When it comes to the Megaton Hammer, just not targeting is the key. As long as you're not, you should be able to hit him almost every time, and he doesn't have a counter for it.

In addition to what's already been said, deku nuts can help, but you need to indirectly hit Dark Link with them. If you target and throw right at him, he just blocks them. Din's Fire is the easiest method, Biggoron Sword is almost as easy, and the Megaton Hammer is better than the sword.
